99% of colleges in India do not have infrastructure: SC

NEW DELHI: Students lured into taking admission through false advertisements by unrecognised and non-affiliated colleges should be compensated heavily by these institutions, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday.

"Why not pay Rs 2 lakh to each student duped by such institutions? It's quite like railway accidents where the government compensates the victims. Here the students are the victims by the career accident. Only if these bogus institutions are made to pay, then this menace will stop," it said.

These remarks came from a Bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly, which was taken aback by the rampancy of unrecognised and non-affiliated colleges offering BEd courses to students, who at the end of the course find themselves in the lurch.

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) also came for a lot of flak, despite its member secretary Hasib Ahmed trying to explain the steps being taken to take action against those institutions which illegally admitted students and being strict in granting recognition to colleges.

The Bench asked him to file an affidavit by Thursday promising that not a single institution not meeting the criteria and infrastructure requirement will be given recognition henceforth.

It said: "In India, 99% of the government and private colleges do not have infrastructure as required under the statute. They are just like shops fleecing money from the students and not bothering about their future."

The Bench was dealing with appeals by a large number of colleges in the western region which had admitted students without having proper sanction. It found out that around 1,200 colleges were given recognition by NCTE in a period of 10 years and wondered as to how so many inspections were carried out by the regulatory body.

"Do not compromise with the standards of education. We have a political class which wants to practice what was prevalent long ago in US -- appoint party men to posts of teachers. Here in India, just before the elections the ruling parties would come out with advertisements for filling thousands of teachers' posts. This is nothing but playing with the future of the students," the Bench said while reserving verdict in the cases.

Student from these 99 % colleges are going to USA and Europe and making 20-30 of scientist in NASA, 1/3-1/4 doctor in America, Engineer in there industries. and rocking with there knowledge.

.
this sounds to be an absolutely rubbish piece of news.. India has a superb education system and infrastructure. Hell some of their forigen schools are equipped better than British and American ones.

.
Read the article. It's not about lack of infrastructures of colleges but rather colleges which have no physical presence and only scam people out of their money.

Though the 99% is grossly exaggerated, in many if not all countries, such 'colleges' exist.

.
its partly true....99% is exaggerated......for example few private junior colleges in my city r not under any educational board(cbse, seba etc.)...........lots of private engineering institutes in the south r not AICTE recognised......in my region right now we have only three medical colleges, out of which one has serious faculty insufficiency ....so the problem is there,n students r suffering.............about new teachers appointment before elections...well what can i comment on our politics n politicians :hang2:

The mind that Indian students possess is enough to secure our future, also the time have changed, earlier a normal IIian used to say that he would settle in USA or anywhere in Europe.
But the now the immigration to the developed world has been decreasing drastically.
The future is India's and also China's(Same story as of India)
Thats why the attentive people of USA are worried about their Kids.

Wait and watch, what boom India and China create in the near future.

And also tell the thousands of people coming to India to study in colleges(Including Pakistan),that we do not have enough infra:cry:

.
99%?????? IIT's and IIM's by itself constitute 45% of Colleges in India....We might not have world class Infrastructures, But Enough Infrastructures on the subjects we are dealing with....

.
In spite of the lack of Infrastructure, India churns out some of the best minds of the world. Please think…what would have been the scenario…if India had the infrastructure…India would have ruled the world. GOI has to sternly look into the matter

You got your mathematics wrong their buddy. At most there arent more than 15 IIT and IIMs. Does that make up 45% of the colleges in India? Meaning India has just 35 colleges?

The figure is grossly exaggerated. Its clear that it isnt based on a survey or statistical analysis, rather a general remark.

.
World IT and Silicon research is dominated by Indians afterall. India is land of doctos and research for the world. Indians runs the UK healthcare. and Indians runs the US research Labs. (19% intel, 22% IBM, 35% MIcrosoft and many more) All these indians are from these 99% colleges. These 99% college students are best in the world to give a hit to West and chinese labour.
For authencity of this post dont troll if you are curios. Just google 100s of credible links(white papers. survey, news papers etc from west and asia) on the web to prove this.

Small girl like you needs to spend some time on forum by learning and reading, because here your every post is read by many across the globe and there are many who wait eagerly for others to make mistake and they get chance to point it out. So write a calculated and correct post.
And stop eating that pop corns in every post, it annoys me.
