Over 90 percent of Hong Kong college students responding to a survey said they were optimistic about the country's future, and more than 80 percent said they would like to work on the mainland according to a report released Wednesday.

The HKUYA Student Exchange Network published the report based on a survey they carried out between February and March on Hong Kong college students' employment intentions for the mainland.

Nearly 75 percent of respondents said the major reason for them to work on the mainland is a plethora of job opportunities.

Over 80 percent believed internship experience on the mainland will improve their competitiveness, and most expected to learn more of the vocational culture and work environment.

The HKUYA Student Exchange Network, an organization under the Hong Kong United Youth Association, launched this year's summer internship program on Wednesday.

More than 200 Hong Kong college students will go to Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin and Dalian to take part in a six-week program. They will work in government organs, State-owned enterprises, cultural and business institutions.

Stanley Choi Tak Shing, honorary chairman of the student exchange network, said he hoped students would learn more about the country's development through the internship, especially those who want to work on the mainland.

A student who will work in the Mei Lanfang Theater in Beijing this summer vacation said she wanted to work in the art industry after graduation, and expected to learn more about the industry through the internship.

Well, every year 140 million of them leave the country and, alas, all of them return. Wasted chances!

Indians would have made better use of it.

Just a painfully small minority, as I see it, that makes the most noise. I like them to go from pseudo rational to complete irrational. I guess Mainland posture and cool drive them crazy. I guess all dying breeds have had this experience. They think when they go with a bang, the entire universe stops. Yet, things go on just as fine.

Firstly, most of these 140 million mentioned are tourists, who won't anyways be allowed to stay in their visiting countries.

Next, for the students and professionals, a high number of people choose to stay in the developed west in the higher bracket of talent.

That is people who are visiting the top universities in the US for STEM, and are the most skilled, continue to stay in the US.

The ratio of returnees has increased only because these days many people going to US from China are rich spoilt kids who don't even have the proper skills.

India also has a much stable political system where no one man can ever have absolute power.

In China, Xi Jinping has undone and is undoing everything that Deng Xiaoping did to bring China to its current position.

Deng Xiaoping brought the system of collective leadership and no cult of personality, but Xi Jinping has overthrown them with a single leadership system and is building his own cult of personality.
