According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, Majority (89%) of Pakistanis think education can stop a person from going towards religious extremism.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Wasim believes education can stop a person from going towards religious extremism, whereas Akhtar believes education cannot influence this. Do you agree with Wasim or Akhtar?” Responding to this, 89% of Pakistanis said they agreed with Wasim and 11% said they agreed with Akhtar.

These results are from Gallup Pakistan’s study on “Understanding Pakistan’s Educational Landscape.” Bilal Ijaz Gilani, Executive Director at Gallup Pakistan comments “these findings are yet another proof that prospects for education have become very promising and education is a high priority for Pakistanis.”

89% of Pakistanis believe education can stop religious extremism: Gallup Poll | The Nation

The only thing that can stop religious extremism is religion itself,, Islam is the most peaceful religion if only people could understand it correctly and dont follow any BABA SAEEN who tells them what to do with out any knowledge of Islam,, and not to forget Education is Compulsory in Islam, but these so called protectors of Islam these days have forgotton it and are blasting schools and madarsas and are killing innocent children

Should we be surprised that 89% of Pakistanis believe education can stop religious extremism! No we should not. It is a fact that with education comes understanding, and understanding leads to tolerance. A nation can only prosper if it is able to educate its masses. We see people, especially young adults, because of lack of education being brain washed into becoming suicide bombers and terrorists who kill innocent without any remorse. Education is a tool that gives an individual the capability to reason and think. Unfortunately today one out of every 10 children who is deprived of education worldwide comes from Pakistan.

Pakistan’s founder the Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah said, “Without education it is complete darkness and with education it is light. Education is a matter of life and death to our nation. The world is moving so fast that if you do not educate yourselves you will be not only completely left behind, but will be finished up. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) had enjoined his followers to go even to China in the pursuit of knowledge. If that was the commandment in those days when communications were difficult, then, truly, Muslims as the true followers of the glorious heritage of Islam, should surely utilize all available opportunities. No sacrifice of time or personal comfort should be regarded too great for the advancement of the cause of education.” He further said addressing the youth of the new nation, “My young friends, I look forward to you as the real makers of Pakistan, do not be exploited and do not be misled. Create amongst yourselves complete unity and solidarity. Set an example of what youth can do. Your main occupation should be in fairness to yourself, to your parents, in fairness to the State, to devote your attention to your studies. If you fritter away your energies now, you will always regret.”

If only all Pakistanis follow their founder’s lead, Pakistan will become an educated progressive country in no time and in that country they will be no place for extremism of any sort.

A very nice post, but don't you think you guys need to step your foot down on our politicians and tell this to them, because only 89% pakistanis know this except them.

If education can stop religious extremism....then all terrorist should have been illeterate...which is not the case....The cure lies in the presenting the true sense of the religion itself....rather than fabricating views that suits the needs of Mullahs, priest and father of respective religion....Sometimes i think why the poor illeterate people are always targetted for all the sins in this world....They are the people who just struggle 24 hours a day to make sure that they can provide food and shelter to their own family..

So i would think...it is the educated people who very smarty created extremism in their mindset...because for them....they are already in good financial position to hook into the religious umbrella to satisfy themselves that how good human being they are...

This is good news. Or we should say this is just news. Common people never want sh!t. This is government who used to fail every time to control extremism and bad things and later blame on common people mentality.
None of us ll wish that our son join a stupid religion extremist group or our daughter get shot. But what if government is failed to protect and let bad people to keep feeding us with bad things. Many of us ll fuc*ed up. And later people ll blame religion for this.

Please guys make sense and be truthful, to yourselves and others - Isn't it "education" that got us in this mess to begin? What the heck are Madaress about then, if not education ?

What then do you imagine this “Wasim believes education can stop a person from going towards religious extremism, whereas Akhtar believes education cannot influence this. Do you agree with Wasim or Akhtar?” Responding to this, 89% of Pakistanis said they agreed with Wasim and 11% said they agreed with Akhtar" Actually to mean?

Recall that in the past, the great academicians, physicians, scientists were all Madressah trained, recall that education itself existed only in Madaress.

There's little doubt about education being a priority for Pakistanis, the question really is WHAT SHOULD BE THE CONTENT OF EDUCATION? We have seen what kind of education the Saudi and Gulf funded Madaress have prepared people for - people sent their children to these hoping to create ethical Moral Muslims conscious of the responsibility imposed by BEING Muslims, it's seems they may not have had the same meaning of "Responsibility" imparted in Madaress.

This poll and those like it may allow you some relief, but Pakistanis cannot escape the question of CONTENT of education.

Good and I believe the rest of 11% should be exiled to an isolated island where;

*they can celebrate their religion in stone-age

*they can hate everyone they want be it muslim or non-muslim

*they can enjoy their current lifestyle

*they can come up with a solution not involving education to fix their broken lives and leave a prosperous Pakistan in hands of intelligent people.

These people have dragged us into dirt with themselves for far too long.

See Education is really "training", it is training within a framework that seeks to create individuals who can help expand and even break out of that framework, to create another that can better reflect reality -- It is a series of connected ideas, a "lens" through which we not only experience our experience, make sense of it and also express it (presumably better than "experience our experience" ?but you know what I mean)

Let give you an example you can all relate with - attempt conversing with the Super Muslims, whereas your framework is reason, ethics, morality and science, theirs is something all together different, it is Do's and Don'ts, it is taboos as opposed to the expansion of experence, they claim to love God and yet hate his creation, whereas you glorify the human experience in the hope of realizing being "Ashraf".

Utopian ideas die hard and Pakistan refuse to face the reckoning, they imagine that there is a "choice" to be made, when in reality there is no choice but a forceful assertion that has to be made.

But there is another side or another way to look at this, it is hopeful, because we must trust people, we must trust that they will "eventually" make the right decision, which does not mean that they must not be assisted to make that decision, and it may even be that by then there will be much that can be saved of Pakistan.

My worry is the 11% who refuse to believe this. The 89% are fine but what about the rest of the people.

true, their mindset has to be changed.but by force, its not possible.it can be done by gradually making them realise the benefits of education.

Education gives sense to understand religion....
i.e many Pakistanis don't know what's quran advices and what it requires us to doo..
we are completely dependent on Mullas....
soo in such cases anyone can easily be brainwashed.....
while anyone who know Islam if he has sense to understand then he can't be trapped and brainwashed by any terrorist.....
The man who has sense can't be a terrorist coz of Islam....:coffee:

nonsense and stupids are around everywhere...
Just educate them so that they can see the facts....
