88 Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers killed on duties, JS told

Planning Minister Air Vice Marshall (retd) AK Khandakar, who is also Minister-in-Charge of the Defense in the House, said on Tuesday that 88 Bangladeshi armed force personnel have so far been killed while performing duties in the UN peacekeeping missions.
Replying to a question raised by treasury bench member Meher Afroz, he said, of the dead, 84 belong to Bangladesh Army, one to Bangladesh Navy and three to Bangladesh Air Force.
Of them, he said, the families of 69 personnel were provided with financial compensation of US Dollar 34,50,000 which is equivalent to Taka 23,80,50,000. "Each of the families got US Dollar 50,000 as financial help," he added.
The minister said, of the rest victims, nine personnel did not get compensation due to their unnatural/natural deaths, while the issue of getting compensation for 10 personnel is under process.
