Actually EF And rafale were selected for price bid. Rafale bid it less than Ef . However EF reduced the prize subsequently. If Eurofighter's offer is too attractive, we may go for that also.

4.rafale deal is on and at the most two more squads will be orderred if french are ready to do honest buisness with ne PMO & MOD or else they could loose this order aswell

5.if ever rafale deal fails to go thru it will be MK2 who will fill that gab followed by AMCA and AURA

6.apart from that no other foriegn MRCA is considerred and IAF is been given "an offer they cant refuse"

What I meant was money could be used for filling critical equipment requirement like basic Firearms in the army or sub's for the navyor invest more in LCA MK2 & AMCA

AMCA is still in the drawing board, and given the pace of development, i'm pretty much assured of it being running into massive delays. LCA Mk2 will at most be on par with Mirage 2000-5, not more than that. It'd be major capability snag to induct Mirage 2000s in the 2020s.

Army and Navy has their own budget, I'd support IAF to take their own decisions. If Rafale deems able enough, it's the responsibility of Indian economists to allocate funds for the acquisition.

Yes, i concur with your statement. And in this case, shortage of money is not on the budget front, he deemed the overall cost of the whole acquisition as unfeasible.

The IAF is being smart by pushing the "immediate need" line- this will not fall on deaf ears with the current political leadership and given the 36 Rafales are being procured on a "fast track" basis for this very reason (immediate needs) we can be more than a little optimistic about their chances of success...

Nope. The French meetings were not good. The German ones were successful. Rumour has it that the follow-on subs also are going to 214s instead of Scorpenes. Rafale also, seems doubtful.

I can't comment on these "rumours" but I would call them nonsensical. There is no way the PM will allow negotiations with the French to fail, not now he has placed political capital on the Rafale deal so publicly whilst on an official visit.


The Rafales are coming to the IAF and they will be present in at least 80 units but I'd say the eventual total will be closer to 200.

The Eurofighter is not preferred by the IAF and the entire fortunes of that project are in trouble, the Rafale's future is now looking brighter than ever.

There is space for the homegrown fighters and the Rafale.

No doubt that the world's finest 4.5 gen fighter appeals to the IAF top brass more than the LCA (which appeals to them for other reasons ) and given it is their job to be in the best shape possible to secure India's skies there is nothing wrong in wanting the best.


There is a middle road between sacrificing capabilities and buying Indian, balancing both is what the MoD is looking to do (and always has been) similar to the IN's approach.
