50 Indian Double-decker Buses Arrive

Long term, you need the underground railways. The project will be expensive but will ease congestion a lot.
Well so far man the Govt has only been planning, but implementation will take time ,that is understandable, but they should hurry. During rush time, nothing moves in Dhaka.lol....

Oigolar kohthar chillo. Ora parbe na bhai

Traffic problems are common to all south asian cities due to our huge population going from million to billion.

The development public transport systems like buses, trains are only solution.

I seriously wish this region was less populated. Much less populated. We should have some sort of zombie apocalypse or something

Its not a question of being anti-India. India is not going to be our future partners and we will give preference to our future partners than our "exploiters and manipulators". And yes, if any company is owned by Indians, even within Korea, Japan or any ASEAN country, those companies will not be given preference over companies that are owned by natives of those nations.

:enjoy: Vietnam has some factory this bus: SAMCO, Trường Hải, Vinamotor...

33 double-deckers to hit Dhaka streets
Tue, May 8th, 2012 4:48 pm BdST

Dhaka, May 8 (bdnews24.com) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the first consignment of double-decker buses imported from India.

The Prime Minister handed over the keys of the buses to Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) chairman M M Iqbal at her office in the morning.

Bangladesh is importing 290 double-decker buses from India and 33 of them were launched on Tuesday. They will operate on several routes of Dhaka City. The other buses will be launched soon, the inauguration ceremony was told.

The process to import 100 air-conditioned and 50 articulated buses from India is underway. Five hundred imported trucks will also join the BRTC fleet.

"Serving the people is BRTC's purpose. My concern is how to make easy transportation of people with low income, how to ensure their commute at low cost," Hasina said.

Indian grant for communications

The Prime Minister said her government was attaching highest importance to railway and water transport.

She thanked the Indian government for its pledge to write off $ 200 million of the one billion being loaned to Bangladesh for various projects.

Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced in Dhaka on Sunday that India would treat the amount as grant, not credit.

The rest $800 million will bear a one percent interest, instead of previously announced 2.75 percent.

Hasina on Tuesday said, "The money will be used to develop communication system and make the rivers more navigable."

"Our country has many roads. The roads will have to be repaired to make them fit for travel and the suspended development work will have to be finished," she said.

Discussions to launch bus services on Dhaka-Kathmandu-Dhaka, Dhaka-Shillong-Dhaka and Dhaka-Guwahati-Dhaka routes were underway, she said. "Development is not possible with the doors closed. We want to expand regional connectivity to Kunming (in China)."

The Prime Minister also said, "Donor agencies suggested closing BRTC after we had formed the government in 1996. The previous government had signed agreement to close it. I had said BRTC would not shut.

"How would general people travel?" she asked.

Hasina directed people concerned to recover grabbed lands of BRTC.

Communications and Railways Minister Obaidul Quader, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Sanjay Bhattacharyya and Roads Division Secretary M N Siddiqui, among others, attended the programme.

Battle of Bach Dang River, thanks for posting these pictures.

This is my point exactly. If we can get better or similar quality at same or even a little higher price, it will be much better for Bangladesh to buy from our ASEAN brothers. This is how we can help each other and build a team of nations to resist the neighborhood bullies.
