4 pak fighter jets but an indian fighter won the day

. . . . . .
I this pic will answer all your doubts...
Guess what Putar... Burni is a border village since a 45 min drive from lahore... Also guess what happened later? These guys were either killed or retreated Ali f with their GOC Gen Prasad who fled on foot leaving in jeep with all the documents and running wireless....

Now u can post alir more from from khemkaran, munabad, kishangarh fort etc etc... Or could quote international media covering the thrashing you recieved along with your retreat.

Aah Good Old Dick Measuring,

the other member has stated correctly that there were heroics from both sides and there were times when pilots from both the countries performed well against each other,

sadly for India, they ended up receiving more losses from the hands of PAF however India drastically improved their Air campaign in 71

Even in 71 ... PAF thrashed IAF out of the sky... Their so called top guns (ironically all of them - were shot)... There is a nice pic of those Air champs posing after wining some competition before the war .. Well they didn't live up to the hype...

Lol!!.... Yeah that is why 90,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered and in Longewala your army got thrashed, IAF ran sorties over Dhaka, PAF initial attack on Indian bases failed. So you saying IA won without air superiority? Damn then PA was so incompetent I guess.

In a war there are heroes on both sides, there are losses on both sides, your talking as if PAF never lost any aces? Did they run away from the fight then? PAF was indeed a tough opponent to the IAF in 65 and 71 but IAFs performance was much much better than 65, this is a hard fact. Jingoism and belittling your enemy wont change facts. 71 we did loose some good pilots but it also produced other good pilots.

90k "soldiers" itself is BS debunked by your own generals and writters .. Your general quoted a ratio of 1:20+ troops in EP... Along with Lacs of muktis and 75 million hostile Bangalis - a civil war you created and sponsored.., the total deployment of PA was 34,000.., add casualities from 9 months of civil wars and direct indian Attacks before the actuall war the ratio/number goes much down...

In EP there was 1 old sqd of f-86s which performed brilliantly .... As for your air superiority ... I can post several neutral/western sources that give a tally of jets lost by IAF ...longewala were blunders where PA tanks were lost to iaf .. As they had no air cover from PAF.

71 was a civil war .. 34000 troops fighting a bloody insurgency for 9 months on the other side of the Indian Ocean in a territory surrounded by india from 3 side... An insurgency armed n trained by India and a hostile population of 75 million... With 1:20+ troop ratio... That's hardly a display of "improved performance.

Don't worry i am not going to post or quote anything....

To be very frank I was not born when this war was happening I totally rely on books, internet postings, blogs etc etc....I really don't know what happened after that picture was taken in that sector.....

Overall impression I had by reading various Indian and foreign blogs and news articles is that Pakistan had more cutting edge weaponry than India in 1965....But eventually India control 1500 sq kilometers odd of Pakistani territory and Pakistan controlled 500 square kilometers odd of Indian territory....

After that everyone knows what happened.....

. .
even in the pic you could see kids... apart from PA deployments, your own generals and authors have covered the true number of PA troops,
So you're saying you believe individual indian sources and not official Pakistani sources?

Jeeve pakistan

Getting Pakistan into an unfavourable situation like that itself shows an improved performance in strategic planning than in 65. Also I was actually talking about improved performance of the IAF as compared with 65 war.

The story from this end. What is not mentioned in this story as it is an Indian account is that this engagement was part of the second raid at Kalaikunda after the first had blown up 7 Canberras.

"
To complete the destruction of Kalaikunda, a second raid was ordered at 10:30 a.m. This time Flight Lieutenant Haleem led a formation of four Sabres. Visibility was still very bad when they reached the target but now the enemy was prepared. A barrage of anti-aircraft fire greeted them and nine Hunters pounced on them. The Sabres split in two pairs. One continued the attack while the others turned to engage the Hunters. Flight Lieutenant Tariq Habib, leading the second pair asked his No 2 Flying Officer Afzal Khan to jettison his fuel tanks to prepare for battle but he was shot down before he could do so. Flight Lieutenant Tariq Habib in the meantime jettisoned three of his tanks, but the fourth hung up and with this handicap he was cornered by 3 Hunters for a good ten minutes. With remarkable coolness and presence of mind, he twisted and turned at low level and though his aircraft got badly damaged, he managed to shake them off and returned safely to Dhaka. For his courage and skill in fighting his way clear of the larger and better equipped enemy force, Tariq Habib was awarded a well-deserved Sitara-e-Jurat. His Squadron Commander, Squadron Leader Shabbir Hussain Syed was also decorated with Sitara-e-Jurat for his outstanding leadership. No 14 Squadron earned the nickname of Tail Choppers, alluding to the swath of bullets they used at Kalaikunda to cut through the tails of IAF-s neatly lined up Canberras. In West Pakistan, PAF had cut off the head of the Indian Air Force, and in their two sorties on 7 September, the pilots of No 14 Squadron did an equally good job with the tail.

In its second raid, No 14 Squadron claimed 4 to 6 Canberras destroyed but lost one pilot and one Sabre. Flight Lieutenant Tariq Habib-s aircraft also could not be recovered for want of spares. The squadron strength was now reduced to 8 but not their zeal to attack the enemy. It was only bad weather and some political considerations that brought a lull in their operations."

However, the 9 Hunters are simply a fog of war that might have been made up by the flight lead in battle or to simply save off his inability to shake the superior piloting skills of cooke.

What does remain however, is that a force of 8 aircraft managed to destroy some 9 Canberra's on the ground for the loss of one using just their guns. Pretty darn good exchange considering they were up against a superior force both numerically and technologically.
