$4.1bn C-17 aircraft deal set to get bigger, 6 more coming

i dont know whether we need any super cargo planes like the C5 galaxy but what do you all guys think like how about five C5 galaxies in IAF colors:azn:

Not sure if they are available for export, but if there is an aim for transporting MBTs, C5, or AN 124 would make more sense, because they can carry more than just 1 of them. But I guess they can't take off and land on unprepared air strips too.

I checked a similar thread about C17 on BR and some of them are saying that the aim is to lift MBTs to mountain areas in the north. But is that a good idea? Especially Arjun should not be useful in that areas with its big size and weight, light and more maneuverable vehicles should be better and didn't IA expressed interest at wheeled tank destroyer and IFV like Stryker for example for that regions?

No, I heared of it when I saw the post here too and I also think that Arjun will be limited to the western areas, which makes C17 useful only for T90s again and AFAIK even they can be carried only 1 by 1.

Their production line is closed now imo..
An-124 is a better option..Can buy them in dozens..

It will be nothing but nonsense to carry MBT by C-17..A train is much better option and they will be used for the purpose..

Hi Jha, I agree, although we have to admit that 16 x C17s can build up a strong MBT force faster than a train could, especially in forwared areas in a war situation, but that is imo one specific kind of advantage that can't be the reason to choose C17 for such high cost or?

well if we can go for a low level drop without landing with the 124,s we can drop 3 tanks per flight since it can handle 150 tons

All about the Antonov An-124

The payload is not the limiting factor with most of these aircrafts, but the size of the cabin! IL 76 MF 60t payload, but even too small to carry T90s, let alone Arjun. An 124 should be able to carry 2 MBTs, but not sure about 3, also air drops of such heavy tanks?

i think IA and IAF should go for a test like para dropping an heavy tank or a low level drop just test them and see for the results. i don't know whether any one in the IA or IAF went for this kind of tests

You can't airdrop MBTs, not even the Americans can do that.

. . . .
The idea is to upgrade our airborne capabilities to that of an Airborne Division and that includes everything, MBTs(T-90s), artillery, bridging equipment, communications, ICVs, and lots of troops.

can some expert throw some light o which option is better... increasing air lift capacity or building physical infra near the eastern border:undecided:
