Bro,Sir, indeed there is poverty but for true comparison, we have to analyze data of how much it changed YoY% during last 10-15 years. Though this data may have some statistical discrepancies especially due to covid-19, but if the situation in 2021 is more of the same as it was in 2017-18, then not much as changed, and Farrukh Saleem just did it to discredit this government and this is what intellectual dishonesty means.
Pakistani poverty statistics are informed by surveys in select regions and 95% confidence level is assumed for the national figure. I have checked them and they are misleading on many counts.
Let me give you a small hint. It might be possible for a household to make ends meet with Rs.40,000/- per month total income in Pattoki but same household will not be able to afford a 3.5 marla house on rent in Lahore. The Cost-Of-Goods-Sold (CBG) measure which informs the National Poverty Line statistic of the country can never capture this dynamic.
Multidimensional Poverty Index can be used to measure poverty levels across Pakistan on much better set of assumptions but does GOP have the political will to conduct a country-wide survey in relation?
I can show you underdeveloped areas in Lahore let alone other much less developed sectors of the country.
Pakistani political parties are into what I dub "Statistical Chamkilian" to show performance and appease vote banks in this matter.
Let me also clarify that my statements have nothing to do with Farrukh Saleem and political point-scoring. I am a socio-economics scholar myself and I understand this theme on a deeper level than average joe.
