34 Indian Soldiers Committed Suicide in Kashmir in 2008

The suicide rate in the army is much less than in general population. Suicide is unfortunate but is still common in any group of human beings.

.
the russians have one of the highest suicide rates in their army...does that mean that their army is guilty of rape/murder of innocents?
the japs are the world-beaters in suicide...which is definitely not an indicator of their well-being.

.
That is quite correct.

Just because PA does not bring in public domain it's problems doesn't mean the problems don't exist. That is an ostrich like attitude.

There are indications all around that PA has it's own problems in dealing with insurgencies. That is if one wants to bring out the head from the sand and dare to look around!

NOW that where Leadership Qualities of Officers Come into Play, Let me tell you one thing the way Pakistani Officers treat their JAWANS is Really Good. They always keep their Moral High and Look into their problems seriously and Grant them Leave if they really need it and they also try to give them Proper rest and Food, Officers of Pakistan Army Usually sit with the Jawans after the end of the day at night and discuss their feelings about the mission and give them a nice Pat on the Back (which they Rightly deserve). :enjoy:

Only Because of this Gentleman Behavior of our Officers, Cases Like these are very Rare in Pakistan Army, I never heard that Jawans are killing their Own Officers and are committing Suicides on Large scale as in USA Military and somewhat in Indian Military Case as well.

That is an ostrich like attitude.

Please try to understand My friend that its not a " Ostrich Like Attitude at all " Pakistan Army's Officers deserve a Salute for Maintaining Discipline and High Standard of leadership and that's why we don't have such Problems (may be few rare cases).

If you are wearing Yellow Glasses  The whole world will look yellow to you. May be that's why you said that Pakistan Army is facing same problem and may be on the same scale.

key word here is chenchya

r u talking about military personals?

key word here is chenchya

theres is not much justification to the supposedly 'gruesome' acts of a military in a conflict zone.russian military as we all know has one of the highest suicide rates amongst all armed forces.i did research a bit about the problems that have plagued the russian foot-soldier since the soviet break'p...and the biggest problems were bad weather and low morale.

r u talking about military personals?

no the japs have the uncanny habit of killing themselves over losses(finanical mainly) and relationship based traumas...but it doesnt mean that they are a bunch of unhappy people.

but we aren't talking about that we are talking about military-wise
and the russians havent done quite good deeds
they have done genocides more than once and military conditions [bullying, having to deal with undisciplined soldiers etc] have also played a role in their high # of suicides
usually when a country commits or is commiting genocide they keep the spotlight off the genocide as much as possible so a country especially like russia would never highlight guilt as a cause

(CBS) Texas Army Specialist Joseph Suell told his mother he wasn't cut out to fight the Iraq war.

"He said 'Momma I haven't killed anybody here and I hope I never have to kill anybody,'" said Rena Mathis.

Instead, the 24-year-old husband and father of three apparently took his own life.

"The cause of death is Ibuprofin and amphetamine. Self-inflicted overdose. The Pentagon says self inflicted overdose," said Mathis, reading a military document on her son's death.

As CBS News Correspondent Bob McNamara reports, since the war in Iraq began, 519 American soldiers have died in the line of duty. But there are questions about how many soldiers were suicides.

The Army has not released the findings of a mental-health team that went to Iraq last fall. And some charge the Pentagon is not telling the whole story.

The Pentagon counts at least 22 GI suicides in the Iraq conflict -- 19 of those Army troops -- most after major combat was declared over last May.

"It's statistically too high and it could be as many as 30 -- it could be as many as 30 in Iraq," said Steve Robinson, a retired Army Ranger who is lobbying Congress to pressure the Pentagon to come clean with the true extent of the war's psychiatric toll.

"This has the potential to be a bad news story," he said.

"A bombshell?" asked McNamara.

"I think so," Robinson replied.

"Our leadership is heavily engaged to make sure that we are doing everything possible to take care of even that one soldier that might take his life," said Lt. Gen. James Peake, Army Surgeon General.

But what the Pentagon does not count are stateside soldier suicides. GIs who took their own lives after duty in Iraq. At Walter Reed Army Medical Center two hospitalized Iraq war vets hung themselves.

An army study three years ago forecast an impending soldier-suicide crisis, but critics say it was largely ignored until more than 600 U.S. soldiers began being evacuated from Iraq for psychiatric reasons.

"I tried to blow my head off with my weapon and then one split second more and I would have succeeded," one soldier said. "I mean I had the gun to my head with the safety off, with the round chambered."

McNamara wanted to know, "What saved you?"

"They did, they took the weapon away from me," he answered.

Some blame Lariam, a malaria drug given soldiers and suspected of having suicidal side effects, or that extended duty tours are taxing battle-fatigued troops.

"I can't see anybody going over there cause it;s pure hell. It is hell," said another soldier.

"This place is not for me," wrote Specialist Suell.

Reading her son's last letter helps Rena Mathis make peace with his death.

"I think God just took him away from that battlefield, that's what I think," Mathis said. "I think God just said 'C'mon let's go, it's not for you.'"

But she can not forgive an army she believes could have done more to bring him back alive.

Lots of emotions again...:disagree:

If you think the news does not reach your ears means nothing happens, it is nothing but daydreaming. Don't tell me, in the whole world, it is only a Pakistan army officer who treats his soldiers well. I doubt even you are convinced with your own statements. Using bold letters and many colors does not help you to prove anything.

Actually, when nothing is told to you, there is a huge possibility of something more dangerous is happening. But you seem more than happy in the darkness.

You keep on Looking at Pakistan Army Through Yellow glasses .

Every news reach Pakistani public, Stop believing that only India has a Press Media, News of Civilian Causalities are reported in Pakistani media and there were many Reports on Pakistani channels about " How Local People in Swat and FATA are being Sandwiched between Pakistan Army and Taliban ".

There are reports in Pakistani channels about Kidnapping of Pakistani Army Soldiers (Now don't make it a fuss as you are good at it, even American, NATO and Afghan soldiers have been kidnapped by These Taliban because they have decades of experience in Guerrilla warfare) and how many Pakistani Soldiers have been Martyred, But you want to hear about Pakistani Jawan :guns: killing his officers before killing Himself, sorry that's not the case in Pakistan Army. You can just dream about that and think that Pakistan Army is suffering from same cancer.

Again i would like to say that MORALE of Pakistani Soldiers is High due to Strong Leadership Qualities of Pakistani Officers. I know this will be difficult for you to swallow, but it is true.

Regarding my use of Bold letters and Colours, If you have a problem with my presentation, why don't you just ask the MODS to issue me some infractions or Remove the bold and colouring option from the control panel.

Is that what you say after you fail to counter another persons post..?

Counter? How are you supposed to 'counter' an argument when any person is just talking unrealistic?

I happened to have gone through some articles on memories of Indian officers as POW's in 1965 war. They said, "Pakistani soldiers often saluted us, as they felt that Indian officers are right bosses to work with. They also believed that Pakistani soldiers under Indian officers can defeat the world!"

(I tried for the links, but I could not get. Probably, the matter is not on net. I will post if I find any.)

Also, PA is always criticized for almost always having officers from children/relatives of former officers. Is this the right behavior with soldiers?

Now, should I claim that Pakistani army officers are worst in the world? Such experiences are very personal and on individual level. Trying to generalize these is foolish. You cannot claim same sort of behavior from thousands of officers, either good or bad.

Even now someone is claiming anything childish, what will you say different than what I have already said?

They said, "Pakistani soldiers often saluted us, as they felt that Indian officers are right bosses to work with. They also believed that Pakistani soldiers under Indian officers can defeat the world!"

Now this is How you reply us, If we treat you Like Professionals, This is how we treat EVEN OUR POW's and this shows us our Greatness and you think you are something like a celebrity and our Soldiers think their own Officers are Just Nothing as compared to Indian Officers :crazy:, This is the most Stupid inference i could ever get from Indian side ever for OUR good behavior.

Our Soldiers Saluted your Officers (who were POW's) Because they were ordered to respect them as they respected their own officers. If you asked them Personally Our soldiers would have told you that they wanted to kill :guns: those ***** but their Officers ordered them to Behave Properly.

You are living in a Fairytale world or Some kind of Wonderland, You Think Pakistani Soldiers thought that Your Officers are better than Pakistani officers. OK let me ask you a Question a LOGICAL ONE. Lets say Your Officers are better than our officers and Our soldiers think that Indian Army Officers are right bosses to work with THEN WHY THE HELL YOUR OWN SOLDIERS ARE KILLING YOUR WORLD CLASS OFFICERS BEFORE KILLING THEMSELVES.

They also believed that Pakistani soldiers under Indian officers can defeat the world

Then why your officers got Punched Right on the face and had a MOST HUMILIATING DEFEAT in 1962 from China and You think They can Conquer the whole world. Are these Officers sons of HERCULES, ALEXANDER OR SUPERMAN. I believe no body Pakistani soldier ever said that and they just made it up on their own.

Let me tell you one thing, Pakistani Army and Indian Army Soldiers are highly professional and they salute each other when ever they meet during an arranged meeting. My Friend who was is Kashmir and he is a Captain told me that after the Earthquake in 2005 Indian Army helped us and asked us if they wanted any aid from India. He Met an Indian Army Brigadier (the meeting was arranged by both the sides) when he met him he saluted him and the Indian Army brigadier also saluted him Back and said " BETA (SON) We will help you and just ask us what we can do to ease your people suffering ". This shows the Professionalism of both sides but your story is just BS.
