ISLAMABAD: According to a framework produced by The Council of Common Interests (CCI), persons found guilty of stealing electricity will have to face up to three years in jail and pay Rs10 million in fines, Express News reported on Tuesday.
As incentive, informants who help the government identify losses will receive up to 2% of the fine as a reward.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif convened a CCI meeting on Tuesday with a view on holding census after consultation with all provinces. Chief ministers from all of the four provinces are present at the meeting.
The CCI session will focus on revising previous energy policies, including an amendment in the 1992 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) that had been previously opposed at the provincial level, particularly by Punjab.
