From what I've read, Afghanistan's ethnic composition is incredibly different to Pakistan's, while we have ethnic groups largely concentrated in their respective areas, Afghanistan seems to be more mixed.

Most of our problems reside in provinces across ex-FATA areas. Hazaras are mainly in central Afghanistan. If balkanization happens, you are destroying the very idea of Afghanistan. Durand line issue don't make sense after that.
