What's new

3,500 jobs to go in PIA cull by end 2017

and 419.4 divided by the current number of planes pia currently have? is.............

Hey use google for calculator!
It's 0.09, which means need more than 10 times as many planes to reach the same ration of staff per plane as Easyjet!

im laz,y honestly i werent expecting kaptan to do the math you just elected to do so. you get 10 brownie points.

pia has a long way to go, mind you its run by a german so things should progress quickly, look at the major airlines of the middle east and and some in asia, they are run by "westerners"

.
419.4 planes.
There you have it. It would have more planes than dozen of the largest airlines in the world combined.

I have close family relative (brother's wife) working with easyjet as business analyst - salary about £85k without bonus. This year they have not done too well so small bonus or no bonus but they still flew 70 million people. Think about that.

And then you get muppets in Pakistan preaching the world and the West. If you can't even run a god damned airline you have pretty well lost any ground to lecture others.

You know me, I have a perfect 'muppet test'. I don't bother looking at figures, documents, reports or all the rest of the fancy pullova. I just have a 'pavement test' - look down at the feet and if there is something that resembles a pavement then that country is sorted. If not then it is failed. Have a look at typical Pakistan town and see if you can find a pavement? Not a chance.

The strange thing is if you look at old pictures of Pakistan all the cities had pavements during the British era. So remember to do the 'pavement test' Does your town pass that test?

£85k aint bad but how much tax is he paying?
i think its a old person retard thing, i dont think the youth aint as stupid the people on the forum are an example [minus a few wahabi nutters] as for pia they have a new ceo [1] i think it will take time and let the old timers die off heck even the political parties have youths who are joining their respective political parties but you have mummy and daddy pulling the strings. mind you having lived in lancashire since birth i have met plenty of pakistanis and indians and have been to both countries. and i think people just dont give a shit about their country because they are too greedy and narrow minded, when shit goes down they they work together but then its too late.

as for pia? change takes time and with the new ceo things are being done that previous ceo's have never done.
i pay closer attention to commercail avation then defence so i know quiet a bit, but weirdly enough i dont travel alot.

All the best to the German CEO. The thing is PIA is a glorified welfare agency that provides jobs, perks, privilages to those who have connections. PIA is fat cow that a racketeers in Pakistan milch.

I gave up long ago the out dated notion that men are clever - wrong amigo. It's womans world this, even if we don't realize it.

cities do have pavements.
Desert I got lot of respect for you man - you shoot straight, I I kinda like that style but you know I do visit Pakistan. Yeh sure they have pavements - sometimes, some places by mistake. Most of the time they don't. In most of the developed world almost every vehicular right of way is replicated with pedestrian right of way in the form of the pavement or in US the sidewalk.

I have been reflecting on this pavement thing if not building a philosophy on the pavements recently because I have been spending lot of time on them lately. Truth be told I lost my licence and can't drive till Feb 2017 which is crampming me bad but that is altogether another story.

Going back to pavements I was thinking how profound they are. You see pavements stand for all sort of things. They stand for the small man. The poor man who ambulates on his legs whilst the rich and fast go by cars. A society that leaves a reasonable amount of right of way for the man on his feet has got to be economically democtratic in that it is prepared to accord certain amount of space for the exclusive right of way to mostly the poor on foot.

Further if that society then spends money on carpeting that right of way with appropriate tarmac or other surface with appropriate drainage and raised platform to isloate from vehicular traffic it shows that socities cares for the poor man's comfort and safety.

Even further if the right of way of the pedestrian is not contravened by other road traffic like cars parking on or blocking the pavement or property owners encroaching on the pavement or traders encroaching on the pavement confirms a society that lives to the rule of law.

Taking the matter even further if those pavements are always lit by street lights to provide security and safety to the pedestrian that suggests a very caring society. Unltimate level is where a pedestrian has a right to walk on that pasvement in safety and should that in any way be compromised he has recourse to civil claims against the local government for damages.

So what's in a pavement? A lot I say !

Ps. My uncle lives in 1-10 area of Islamabad. A sort of middle class area probably built post 1980. There is no proper pavement in the neighbourhood very few places in the cities have pavements. They are exception rather than rule.

Easyjey 233 aircraft >10,000 employees
PIA 38 aircraft > 18,000 employees

Recipe for a hard crash landing is obvious to any observer.
THY 336 aircraft > 47.000 employees

National carriers have often more employees than private airlines. Mismanagement is not necessarily accountable in this case. It's very common that national airlines operate huge maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centers, which are also used by private airlines.

You're great! Your "test" is widely debated in Turkey and especially secular people and progressive conservatives use this argument.
I'm from Malatya/Eastern Anatolia. This unfortunately means, my home province is not very rich. But our mayor (Ahmet Cakir | AKP) believes that streets and pavements are actually reflecting the residents mindsets. So, he simply repaired old and bumpy pavements (+ planting more trees on the roadside). The results are stunning. It's just a minor change but everything looks more accurate, clean and more positive.

That's really interesting. It speaks volumes about inefficiency and politically motivated appointments. PIA like any other govt organisation was turned into a dumping ground.

Do you some math yourself too ...

.
Yes PIA is overstaffed but PIA's main problem is it has too few aircraft. If they increase fleet they can utilize their excess staff to some extent.

Needs to induct more narrow body and cheaper to operate aircraft for domestic routes like the 737NG. Its a shame seeing 777LR/ER aircrafts designed for really long routes being operated on just KHI,ISB & LHR local routes.

Still, there is much more work to do in Turkey.
Very nice. You certainly pass the 'pavement test'. in my opinion you are now bona fide member of the First World. Your town is very pretty - more so then the town I live in. I could live there easily. Nice open roads, plenty of trees, all in all looks very civilized.

I knew Istanbul and west of Turkey was developed but it appears development has spread deeper into Turkey. Very good.
