The State should not be involved in trying to control religious matters in the first place, but concentrate on its role as the framework that works for all its citizens, equally, and without regards to religion. There are so many shades of religious thought that trying to impose uniformity is a recipe for disaster.
For example, if the government did its job in providing the proper educational facilities, the main reason these madrassahs exist in the first place would no longer be there.

I understand that my views are not popular here, but they do arise from a deep knowledge of Pakistan, inside and out. Denying the irrefutable evidence may make one feel good, but will not change the outcome. The only way out is the make the required changes. And I keep highlighting the changes needed.
To get back on topic (which, BTW, is not me ), what is being done to remove the conditions that have led to the proliferation of such a large number of madrassahs in the first place? Where is the investment in education that is needed to provide the students forced to go to these retrogressive institutions with a viable alternative?
