26/11 Mumbai attacks: Pakistani officials reveal attackers' training

^ Buddy, if you look at my posts made earlier in various threads I have made same arguments you have said.

Point is we should also work out contingency plan if we can't achieve what you have proposed.

Sir, India hasn't reduced its pressure regarding 26/11 justice, but the Pakistani negotiators are asking problematic issues to be put on the back burner for a short while till a thaw in the bilateral ties are acheived.
Both parties want the trust deficit to reduce and it is favourable for both.

As for contingency plans, they will always exist, we have been bitten a few times and will not take anything at face value, our policy is well rounded in such scenarios.

What makes you think such plans are not being devised or executed? I don't think Institutions out there recruit duds!

Nothing has changed since 26/11. We stopped having relations with Pakistan. Why can't Indian govt. just remain indifferent and not allow any type of talks or games unless all the people behind those attacks are found and convicted.

I wish we had leader like Golda Meir. She knew how to take care of business when world fails to deliver.
Becasue then the narrative turns to "India doesn't want peace","India is trying to bully Pakistan", "India is delaying the peace process". The sad thing is the Pakistais have been so succesful in carrying out attacks in India that now any further attacks are seen as par for the course. And Pakistan has also been able to muddy the water so much it looks like India is somehow in the wrong for even getting attacked!

I admit the knee-jerk reaction is to want nothing more to do with these a-holes but the thing is these incidents keep happening because certain issues aren't sorted out. But this situation is becoming more and more like the Israeli-Palestine conflict where no one is really do anything to change the status quo and both sides are consistanlty taking chunks out of each other in a never-ending cycle of violence and suffering.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani investigating officials have told an anti-terrorism court here that the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks received training at various centres of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba across the country, including navigational training in Karachi.

Pakistani media reported on Sunday that five inspectors of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), who are prosecution witnesses in the case, informed the ATC court in Rawalpindi about the training details and capabilities of the accused — Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Mazhar Iqbal alias Abu Al Qama, Hammad Amin Sadiq and Abdul Wajid alias Zarar Shah.

The testimony is significant because viewed along with two recent developments, this seems to mark a change of tack in Pakistan from outright recalcitrance to possible cooperation with India in the 26/11 probe.

Recently, Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency ( FIA), which is probing the 26/11 attacks, approached the ATC court in Rawalpindi seeking day-to-day trial in the case. Besides, the Pakistani government has proposed amendments to the country's evidence laws to do away with mandatory consent of the accused for collection of their voice samples.

Pakistan's recent steps in connection with the 26/11 trial coincide with renewal of cricket ties between India and Pakistan and also a proposed visit of the country's interior minister Rehman Malik to New Delhi to operationlize the new visa regime between the two countries.

However, observers are still to be convinced as LeT has been a long-standing strategic asset for the Pakistani establishment.

The five CID inspectors — Muhammad Nawaz, Tahir Hussain, Khadim Hussain, Saleemullah and Hafiz Imran—maintained that they had collected information on LeT's training centres around the country and forwarded the report to the government.

They said the perpetrators of the attacks were trained at LeT centres at Yousaf Goth in Karachi, Buttle in Mansehra, Mirpur Sakro in Thatta and Muzaffarabad. The LeT abandoned these soon after the attacks.

"Lakhvi was LeT's operational commander who trained other militants. He was an expert in using firearms and improvised explosive devices. He also remained 'commander' of LeT in Azad Kashmir," the inspectors' statement said.

The inspectors told the court that suspected abettors Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hammad Amin Sadiq and Shahid Jameel Riaz were also trained at LeT centres and at sea near Yousaf Goth in Karachi's Gadap town.

Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali, the special public prosecutor of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)), told the court that the witnesses were responsible officials who had recorded their statements without any pressure.

Khwaja Mohammad Haris, Lakhvi's counsel, asked the prosecution witnesses whether they had seen the suspects getting training at the LeT camps. The officials said they had collected information through their informers. "If the statements are true, then it showed negligence on the part of witnesses" Haris said. The hearing was adjourned till November 17.

its mean your security forces are terrorists ? indra gandhi murder ?

The particular security guard who shot the PM was a terrorist, yes. But he didn't end up hijacking the country and ruling it after Indira Gandhi's assassination. Your PM was hanged and the country was taken over by the men who did it - the men who have guns. And that saga kept repeating, and even now nobody can be sure if it will happen again or not.

You have to stop this habit of trying to compare Pakistan and India. The two countries are not on the same plane in such matters. I'm sure you are old enough to know that, even though the teenaged trolls here aren't.

It will be difficult to get Golda Meir types in India but atleast do not elect fools like I.K.Gujral as PMs who came up with the stupid Gujral doctrine thereby undermining the RAW's covert operation capabilities within Pakistan. This idiot thought that building goodwill will lead to peace with Pakitan without the basic understanding that the Kashmir issue have become an emotional issue for both the sides where even a concession of 1 inch of land in Kashmir by either side's leadership will become a political suicide and without resolving Kashmir issue there is no permanent peace.

To us, the real test of your country would be if they can mete out just punishments for the perpetrators of 26/11, as a beginning. If as you say, if they are all going to be prosecuted and executed, I shall be happy - but more than that, very surprised. A large part of your society lives in denial, and I don't just mean some PDF members. Such a long battle had to be waged to even get pak to admit that the training and planning was done by Pakistanis in Pakistan, and not by a RAW-MOSSAD conspiracy.

I hope you are right about the outcome of this trial, if it ever goes to trial. I shall wait and see, as you suggested.

Maybe it has some element of truth in that a woman politician in India has to be twice as good and twice as aggressive as a man to be able to rise up in politics and these qualities come in handy when making decisions. Case to point - Mayawathi, Mamta, Jaya, Uma Bharti.

Yup we need a Golda Meir type leader.

We really need some covert operations capability and we should do it Operation Wrath of God style. Take no prisoners. They conduct terrorist attacks, infiltrate special forces and bump them off through targeted assassinations. Sadly our politicians talk more, finger point more than actually DO anything.
