25 Tons of Bombs Wipe Afghan Town Off Map

Nothing new. In computer science the brute force algorithm is the last and desperate resort. I guess same applies in the real world.

Dear readers, the following comments from LTC David Flynn, who was in charge of conducting this operation, explain what happened at Kalacha village.

‘Why I Flattened Three Afghan Villages’ | Danger Room | Wired.com

Kalacha village elders called on the Afghan and American commanders to remove explosives which the Taliban had used to booby trap their homes. The extent of their disregard for the value of human life can be seen through these tactics which they continue to utilize. Taliban claim to be on the side of the Afghan people but their actions tell a different story. Kalacha village elders and military commanders realized that the destruction of the village was inevitable because insurgents had booby trapped the entire village and planted IED’s on every meter of trail and roads used by villagers. These were life threatening conditions for the villagers, and those who were tasked to remove these explosives. Hence, the village was evacuated so that no civilian or military casualties would occur.

“Before a planned raid into Lower Babur with Special Forces and Afghan commandos, “people literally came up to us and said we can’t go back there. We were with the police on a partnered operation, and they literally told the police, ‘don’t go down into the gardens, there are Taliban IEDs [there].’ Go where it’s wet, not where it’s dry, if you have to go

The Kalacha villagers were promised that they and other Afghan workers would be employed to rebuild their village. See images of the reconstruction of Kalacha village.

Afghan and U.S. forces established a joint combat outpost in Tarok Kalache to prevent Taliban intimidation during this rebuilding period. In addition to village reconstruction efforts, the US has funded billions of dollars of projects in all different sectors of the Afghan society. Our mission remains: to help all Afghans emerge from the devastation created by three decades of war and oppressive Taliban rule, and to show our commitment to the region.
