A top of my head calculation says that Turkey pays some 5 billion $ from it's budget to its professional troops from the Defence Budget.I could be way wrong though.

@Hakan - I can't read Turkish so I don't really understand the break-up of numbers but does this 689,324 figure include paramilitary forces as well as active reserve ?

total military personnel is 636,644. 689,324 is the number together with civilian clerks and workers.

Second Row =Gendarmerie
Third Row = Coast Guard

Reserve personnel numbers are not included in the list.

Reserve personnel number should be around 500,000s

Which makes a combined active and reserve strength of around 1,200,000 personnel.
