(ECNS) -- Beijing has started erecting a large-scale flower terrace on Tiananmen Square to celebrate this year's National Day on Oct. 1.

About 150 people, 30 trucks and 4 cranes are involved in the decoration.

An official of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry said the flower basket will be 17 meters high and at a diameter of 50 meters, while the biggest peony flower could reach 3 meters in diameter.

The overall basket design was inspired by a painting by Ding Liangguang of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It's reported that new printing technologies were also used to make the artificial flowers more colorful, vivid and safe.

Flowers used to decorate Chang'an Avenue include 13 species of chrysanthemum, all cultivated domestically.

Beijing Florascape Co., Ltd said the main structure of the central display would be finished on Sept. 23, which will be followed by placing flowers and testing lights during the next two days.

Milestone events such as the Long March, Winter Olympics and World Horticultural Exposition will be featured in 10 flower baskets along the avenue too.

An authentic tango extravaganza is coming to Beijing and Shanghai during the upcoming National Day holiday here in China.

Mora Godoy, a well-known Argentine tango dancer and choreographer, will return to the Chinese cities between October 1st and 6th.

Along with dancers of her dance company, Godoy will bring to China the "Bailando Tango Remix," a show that combines Argentine tango with modern dance and even acrobatics.

Audiences will sure get a true flavor of Argentine passion without leaving China.

A well trained ballerina, Godoy made a career switch back in the 90's. The Mora Godoy Dance Company debuted here in China back in 2003 and has since returned often.

The dancer and her partner famously got US president Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on the dance floor during a state dinner in Argentina earlier this year.

During the upcoming tour, Godoy will perform some new dances specifically choreographed for China.

Godoy will perform at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on October 1 and 2, while four shows will follow in Beijing beginning October 3rd at the National Center for the Performing Arts.

According to railway authorities, many trains leaving from Shanghai for popular destinations during the upcoming National Day holiday (October 1 to 7) are already sold out. Flights leaving from Shanghai to major cities in China are also mostly booked.

The official railway tickets booking website www.12306.cn indicates that all trains leaving from Shanghai for Chongqing, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Nanchang, Fuzhou, Hefei, Shijiazhuang, Shenyang, Changchun and Harbin between October 1 and 3 are nearly sold out. Most seats sold within 10 days of going online.

Shanghai Railway Bureau estimates a daily transportation of 2.1 million people during the holiday, an increase of 9 percent. Peak travel times are expected on October 1, with a passenger flow of 2.85 million.

Shanghai residents seeking a holiday excursion within the Chinese mainland may wish to wait until the second half of the golden week or travel abroad.
