2 Russian pilots killed as ISIS shoots down chopper near Palmyra – MoD

Looks like munition had premature explosion, I don't see any anti-missile fire. So it was operational accident.

There are no munitions in the tail section of the helicopter. It was an anti aircraft missile if fired from the ground or a very lucky rpg or anti tank rocket. The warhead detonation can be seen clearly in the video.

Yes it could be a friendly fire accident. Will need more details as an unguided rocket hitting the lead has very low probability. If so it has to be the freakiest accident recorded in history and the other pilot has to be a certified rickshaw driver.

I guess a lucky shot of S-60 gun:

Probability is very low, but after 9 months of firing u will eventually hit one.

These cannot get near enough in the desert to shoot at a Mi-35M. It was a friendly fire or an ammo malfunction IMO.

Friendly fire and malfunction have zero chances. Malfunction does not fire backwards. And pilots are not retards to fire rockets when there is friendly helicopter in sight.

After checking shooting down of Turkish Cobra I came to conclusion it was a MANPADS. It also explains why ISIS filmed the event in HD.

If it was MANPADS, the shooter would have revealed his position and quickly neutralized by ground forces or other aircraft in the vicinity. I doubt it was MANPADS. The US does not supply MANPADS to any rebel group in Syria.

The rocket is HE-FRAG. It sends fragments in all directions. Surely, a malfunction would detonate the rocket and fragments would destroy the tail rotor.

Don't think so. Not premature explosion. Considering rockets would be ejected forwards, not backwards. And rockets are faster than helicopters.

And if there was premature explosion and the rocket stays in position when it happened, it would tore of the wing or destroy the rocket pod, not the tail rotor.

I dont know what they tried to achieve with these WW2 style flights, firing unguided rockets.

And Russian MoD is a joke: first they denied, then they claimed it was Syrian Mi-24 shot by TOW.
can tow hit air targets ?

.
If you watch the video closely, there is a minor explosion in the middle of the tail right before the big one at the rotor.

The minor explosion is in a different area compared to the rockets being fired before hand. Very interesting.

can tow hit air targets ?
No. If it was a TOW, it would be the 1 in a million shot.

You play too much video games. There are countless ATGM launch videos in Syria where target cant see the missile until impact. In case of MANPADS its even easier to escape because its fire and forget.

But they use MANPADS although very rarely.

Explosion hits the tail, not fragment.

Check videos. Cobra impact is very similar to Mi-35.

Add to this that they were filming this specific helicopter in HD. So I dont see a reason to doubt it was a MANPADS.

It can hit static or slow targets. These helicopters were flying at 200+ km/h, zero chance for TOW or any other ATGM.

No incoming smoke trail. Rules out MANPADS.
Can u see incoming smoke trail here?

But it was MANPADS.

Why u insist on magic back flying rockets which were by magic accident filmed by ISIS exactly in moment of malfanction?

The aircraft flies forward. If the rocket does not ignite, it would be stationary in the air and flying backwards relative to the aircraft. As a Jew, Einstein would be ashamed of your IQ. Relativity. Remember.
