Whether you have 400 or 3000, you have enough. Building large numbers is a waste as one never gets to use them.

Russians had 40,000 of them at there max and that could destroy the world 10X over ever more, However agreed building so many is unnecessary however for deterrence, will any country give up their nukes ?

Honestly, I do not care for the world how the others think. In fact I welcome them to think along the lines that everything "Made in China" are cheap and breaks the first time it is used if not inferior copies

Even the peak level of US/Russia's nuclear stockpiles cannot destroy the World, maybe half of the World's population.

Well, the asteroid that hit Earth 65 million ago had created far more powerful destruction than any nuclear weapon, yet it did not extinguish the life on Earth.

China's nuke is quite unique, since Russia/UK/France all had their nuclear technology derived from US.

But China's atomic bomb and H-bomb were all indigenously designed.

In order to destroy the urban areas and the industrial capability of US, you would need at least 1000 thermonuclear weapons.

And this does not mean to wipe out their entire population.

All PLA Generals are very disciplined and they know what they are talking about.

To let a General to deliver this kind of message would be simply too harsh for the relationship between China and US.

A Colonel's words don't have enough weight, so a Major General would be the most suitable to do this job.

while there is a fog concealing China's numbers, there is no fog concealing the US', keep that capability in mind.

Honestly though as China is still following the policy of obscuring its actual count, its pretty safe to assume they have not reached any critical threshold when it comes to nuclear war. There is no benefit to keeping that sort of capability hidden when you have it, unless the intention is to use it first of course.

Also that sort of build up wont be isolated to Chinaand the US. It would/will lead to a massive ratcheting up of tensions in the region with countries pushing for their own capability.
