19th SAARC Conference in Islamabad 2016-News and Updates

.
Why would you want to disband SAARC?

Because it accomplishes absolutely nothing given India - Pak relations.

A very lame attempt at trying to create a first step to something like the E.U. Sounds good on paper, but nothing gets implemented.

India is better off dealing bilaterally or in smaller effective groups like BBIN for trade and logistic blocs.

India-Burma-Thailand is another one. India - Iran - Afghanistan as well.

Besides the way I see it, it is Pakistan's turn to host the summit through rotation....so India and like-minded countries can simply keep refusing to attend.....and that defacto means SAARC doesnt operate anymore.

Dude is it really necessary to insult Bangladeshis because of a few PDF Bangladesis, which may or may not even be bangladeshis?

surely false flaggers bro, just ignore and move on!

What next? Afghanistan? Lol You can only Bully Kids in the Region and taking pride in it...get a life :lol:

And to what effect is that bullying when they choose to opt out on their own, geez the level of stupidity is paramount!

Sounds reasonable. I suppose a country like India has no need for a regional association.

DHAKA: Bangladesh on Wednesday pulled out of a key regional summit to be held in Pakistan, a day after India said it was boycotting the event over a deadly cross-border attack on a military base.

Bhutan and Afghanistan were also reported to be withdrawing from the November summit after India announced late Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not take part, citing “increasing cross-border terrorist attacks in the region”.

Relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours have deteriorated sharply since a deadly attack on a military base in disputed Kashmir that New Delhi blamed on militants from across the border.

Pakistan denies any involvement in the attack, in which 18 Indian soldiers died.

But Modi, under pressure to act after the worst such attack in more than a decade, has threatened to make it a pariah state.

On Wednesday junior Bangladesh foreign minister Shahriar Alam confirmed to AFP by text message that Bangladesh would not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit.

Indian media cited Dhaka as blaming “the growing interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by one country”, and said Bhutan and Afghanistan were also planning to withdraw.

The country was not named, but Bangladesh has in the past accused Pakistan of interference for protesting the execution of Islamist leaders found guilty of war crimes.

South Asia analyst Ashok Malik said the pull-outs would have little practical impact on Pakistan but could push it closer to rival regional power China.

“It basically scores a symbolic and a political victory. As for Pakistan, this will push it even closer to China,” said Malik, head of the Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation’s regional studies initiative.

Responding to India’s move, Pakistan said it remained “committed to peace and regional cooperation” and accused New Delhi of perpetrating “terrorism” on its soil.

“As for the excuse used by India, the world knows that it is India that has been perpetrating and financing terrorism in Pakistan,” tweeted foreign ministry spokesman Nafees Zakariya late Tuesday, citing the capture of an Indian intelligence officer in Balochistan earlier this year.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of interference in the southwestern province of Baluchistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan and is afflicted by militancy and a separatist insurgency.

I genuinely think Pakistan made a huge blunder in trying to interfere in Bangladeshi internal issues.. Those short sighted policies which in fact removed any impact it had on leverage, Pakistan needs to be smarter or it's going to loose diplomatically in the long run to India, Worse part is Bangladeshi judicial process's have no impact on Pakistan strategically nor internally, Pakistan needs to play smart and look beyond religious affinities when it comes to real politik, It's stupid to do otherwise

The region need a strong Pakistan to keep Indian hegemonic amibitions under check

I wonder how far up Modi's a$$ is Hasina's head!

Pakistan really didn't interfere in Bangladesh's internal matters. All they did was protest the war crime tribunal which itself is dodgy (you get sent to jail if you try to question it). And the only reason they did so was because those people were helping the then government in charge. India on the other hand set up AL and turned Bangladesh into India's puppet state.

Real politik doesn't work that way, You may find the process dodgy but some others wont, But the fact of the matter is it was a internal issue of Bangladesh, No Pakistani or any of it's interests were involved, Whichever way you look at it in was a decision of the judiciary of a sovereign state

Lets put it this way shall we that short sighted decision by Pakistan strengthened Hasina's grip and it helped India to solidify it's influence on the Hasina govt

I know some of my colleagues who are no way supporters of Hasina govt was was equally appalled by the attempted impediment by Pakistan on their sovereignty

Well stated. Nothing we say to Bangladesh would have made them change their decisions so why interfere?

The US is going to be run by a woman soon. Germany is run by a woman so is the UK. Bangladesh may be weak but being run by a woman is not the reason for it.

They are doing better than Pakistan in many indicators whether we like to admit it or not. Our factories are shifting there because the nikami Pakistani government couldn't solve the energy crisis. Plus why should we be on bad terms with another country no matter what the past was?
