LIVE | Catastrophic Bronx fire leaves 19 dead, including 9 children

TREMONT, Bronx (WABC) -- At least 19 people are dead, including nine children, in a catastrophic fire that broke out at high-rise apartment building in the Bronx Sunday, officials said.

Officials say the five-alarm fire started in a duplex apartment on the third floor of a 19-story high-rise building at 333 East 181st Street in the Tremont section of the Bronx just before 11 a.m. Sunday.

In a press conference, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said 32 people were sent to hospitals in life threatening condition, with at least 63 people injured in total. The predominant injury for the 32 victims was severe smoke inhalation.

Can't blame wood houses for this

RIP, NYC is a shithole. No wonder there's a mass exodus coming out from there

I think it is pretty easy to know the story of how well this place is maintained.
TLDR: ZERO

Twin Parks North West
333 E 181ST ST, Bronx, New York 10457

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)

Since this property has received funding in part through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a certain number of units are set aside for lower income households. Households must earn either less than 50% or 60% of the area median income (depending on the set-aside option chosen by the property owner) to qualify for these units. Rents in these units are capped at a maximum of 30% of the set-aside area median income (adjusted for unit size). Some rental units in this property may not be subject to LIHTC and therefore have higher rents and no maximum household income requirement.

Cheap things cost a lot in the end.

If it were up to Pakistani people, they would blame Biden, bad governance, US army that should have been ready with fire extinguishers outside the building.

Low income public housing in a bad neighborhood from the start.
Meaning some government officials paid a crony construction company some big money in 1973 to build the cheapest thing they could get away with with a facade of being friendly.

Twin Parks has been largely forgotten. While it is occasionally cited as a precedent for its innovative unit typologies, Twin Parks goes unnoticed as a case study of high-rise housing for neighborhood revitalization. Why? Perhaps because, shortly after its completion, the buildings were deemed to be a failure: they had not slowed the rapid change in their neighborhoods; stories of gang violence dominated coverage from the start.

About the apartment that collapsed in Miami on June 24, 2021, I hear its rescue work is still going on.

The American rescue team has successfully saved a dog from the ruins, which well demonstrates the great human rights spirit of the USA.
I hope the American rescue team will continue to refuel and save more lives from the ruins. There are 160 people waiting for you to save. Come on. I hope you can win before the end of 2022.

Dont judge the people by the buildings they live in. Many are just lower income people. Many are immigrants with no other options, especially in such an expensive city like New York.

How many here that have immigrated or migrated to major cities locally or to other countries have not lived with a lot of people in a tiny apartment.

the cause of this being investigated, but it might have been caused by a space heater.

Now, while this does not change how heart breaking this is, regardless of whom the deceased were, but listen to the Mayor of New York, as he shows kindness to the families of the deceased and the community; our fellow Muslims from Gambia.

He also honors the brave Firefighters that risk their lives to go into these low income buildings for their fellow New Yorkers, even after their oxygen tanks had already become empty. Also the Governer of the state and the Senator Schumer came, to show their respects and do their duty. President Biden even called the Mayor to offer any help he could provide on behalf of the federal government.

I'm sure they are still digging people out of the Sichuan rubble too.

Of course not the site is completely empty now other than the cement floor of the underground parking garage.
