sorry i do not have it, when i get it will show you, i heard it from BBC.

well if you cross the border and try to kill BDR , is not it calling for war ?

all i got from bbc is this

At least 18 soldiers have been killed in an exchange of fire between Indian and Bangladeshi border guards at a frontier outpost, according to officials in Dhaka.

A warlike situation is prevailing in the area

Local official John F Karshiing
Bangladeshi officials say that two of their soldiers died and 16 Indian border guards were killed in the clash at a border outpost in Kurigram.

But India says the toll is much lower and that only five soldiers - three Indians and two Bangladeshis - have died.

Correspondents describe it as the worst ever outbreak of fighting between the two countries.

The fighting, which is believed to be continuing, comes amidst a tense stand-off in another border outpost in the north-east Indian state of Meghalaya.

India says Bangladeshi troops overran and occupied a disputed border village near the town of Dauki and are holding more than 20 of its soldiers hostage.

Bangladesh said Indian forces launched an early morning attack on their posts in the frontier district of Kurigram - which lies on the border with Indian state of Assam.

Protests

"Sixteen troops of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) got killed during a fight on the border at noon today ," chief of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Major-General Fazlur Rahman told Reuters.

Two wounded Indian soldiers were captured during the fighting and have been sent to Dhaka for treatment, he said.

Indian border guards launched a dawn attack
There has been no word as yet from the Indian side confirming the deaths.

But India has summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Delhi to lodge an official protest over the "intrusion" in Meghalaya.

The Bangladesh foreign ministry is expected to summon the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to lodge a counter protest.

Troubled border

India says Bangladeshi troops occupied the border village of Pyrdiwah, forcing its residents to flee.

"A warlike situation is prevailing in the area with Bangladesh Rifles men and some 500 regular Bangladesh army soldiers encircling the BSF outpost by digging trenches and setting up bunkers," John F Karshiing, spokesman for the local administrative body said.

Senior BSF and BDR officials are reported to have met on Tuesday night to resolve the issue, but it is unclear if they made any progress.

The border between the two countries has been in dispute since the partition of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan in 1947.

The ownership of several villages on both sides of the border are disputed and claimed by both countries.

This is what BBC had to say on 19 April 2001.

BBC News | SOUTH ASIA | Fresh Bangladesh border clash

Heavy clashes have continued between Indian and Bangladeshi border guards a day after 18 soldiers were killed.

Describing the fighting as "very serious," India has called on Bangladesh to pull back its troops.

Thousands of villagers on both sides of the border have fled the fighting and sought refuge in temporary camps and mountain slopes.

The main fighting was along Bangladesh's northern border with India's Assam state, where two Bangladeshi soldiers and 16 Indian border guards died in clashes on Wednesday.

But fresh skirmishes were being reported from a disputed river island separating the state of Tripura from Bangladesh.

Officials in Bangladesh's Kurigram district said India's Border Security Force used mortars and heavy machineguns.

The Bangladesh side fired machineguns and other weapons.

But they denied Indian media reports that said Bangladesh had fired rockets, injuring nine Indian civilians.

Indian warning

In the Indian parliament, Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh said the priority was for Bangladesh to withdraw from territory it seized along the border.

"We have very clearly told the Bangladesh Government about our views that there should be an earliest restoration of the status quo," Mr Singh said.

Correspondents say fighting intensified on Thursday morning with both sides firing heavily at each other's positions.

"There was continuous firing overnight and people are terrified. At least three artillery mortar shells fired by Bangladesh soldiers fell in towns and villages close to the border," said district police chief AJ Baruah.

"Hundreds of women and children are moving out of their villages for fear of being caught in the crossfire."

A senior official of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) said there were scattered exchanges of fire overnight and Thursday morning but said there were no new reports of casualties.

However fresh troops had arrived from nearby districts, and from the capital Dhaka, 240 km (150 miles) away, and the neighbouring outpost had been put on high alert, he said.

Long-running dispute

The new clashes come amidst a tense stand-off at another border outpost in the north-east Indian state of Meghalaya.

India says Bangladeshi troops have seized the border village of Pyrdiwah, near the town of Dauki, and are holding at least 20 soldiers hostage.

Areas of that particular stretch of border have been in dispute since Bangladesh independence in 1971. The ownership of villages on both sides of the border is claimed by both countries.

Pyrdiwah has been in the possession of India since 1971, although it is claimed by Bangladesh.

Commanders of the border forces of each side are now holding a meeting to resolve the crisis but correspondents say no progress has been made.

Skirmishes are relatively common between the two countries, which share a 4,000 km (2,480 mile) border, but the latest violence is especially serious.

Did I get these facts right?if this place is under India since 1971 then whom did this land belonged before 1971?East Pakistan.after liberation by default these lands belongs to Bangladesh not India.right?then why India still illegally occupying Bangladesh land?care to share? Anybody?

Actually the Indian troops employed at both Boroibari and Padua were SSB troops dressed as BSF. BSF is a ragtag, ill trained, poor disciplined, ill equipped and very poorly led mass / jathha. Their objective is to earn money through smuggling, etc. They are not meant to fight, and will not fight. Indian superior HQs realizing this used SSB whose AOR includes BD.

MAYBE because it wasn't true to begin with or based on speculation- yaara EVERY news agency contradicts your statement, what we know and read of it back then also contradicts your statement, Loki has already posted his "clarification". Figures can be misread easily.
