India rubbishes report on Taliban attack on Indians

July 11, 2009 12:18 IST

India today rubbished a Pakistani media report which claimed that six Indians had been killed in a terror attack in Afghanistan.

Sources in the External Affairs Ministry said that no Indian was killed in any attack anywhere in Afghanistan.

"We checked up and found that this report is untrue," a source in the ministry said. Pakistan's Dawn News TV channel had last night claimed that six Indians were among 18 killed in an attack by Taliban [Images] in Paktia province of Afghanistan.

On earlier occasions, too, the Pakistani media had issued such reports which India feels are part of malicious campaign to scare away Indians engaged in reconstruction and development works in Afghanistan.

No need to close thread, as long as it is made clear that the news is false, as you have already done. Thanks Duhastamish/

Though it must be said, that I wouldn't expect the Bharati govt. to own up to any losses suffered in Afghanistan. Maybe we should wait for independant verification of these reports.

Lolz at pakistani media....thanks du ,for clearing it up....end of story!

If there are a few good channels in Pakistan then DAWN News is one of them. Dawn aired footage of the attack from the Taliban side and that footage was very real. The heavily armed Taliban weren't doing so well, taking a lot of incoming fire, with tracers whishing all around and RPGs setting off fires in the bushes in front of them. I wasn’t surprised the Afghan police claimed that the bodies of many of the attacking Taliban were still lying around the area because it seems like these guys attacked a heavily armed RAW training camp mistaking it for a ‘soft target’. If Dawn footage was actually from this event, and now the Indian government is trying to deny this even happened then it could mean that they’re trying to cover something up. Its not like the Indians to miss an opportunity to rant at Pakistan and try and spoil Afghan-Pak relations. This is all in the domain of possibilities right now ofcourse, but since its not like DAWN to air crap and this sort of thing has happened before, we’ll wait for things to clear up instead of deleting this thread.

Keep all your discourse civil and mutually respectable. Otherwise I’ll be deleting whole posts from now on.

ATS has been banned for his xenophobic outburst. Let this be a lesson to all wannabe troublemakers.

It goes without saying that THIS is a Pakistani forum, with an International membership. To insult the whole nation and people of Pakistan is therefore NOT a good idea. I hope the penny has dropped, so to speak

I saw the footage aired on Dawn News. But it doesnt suggest anything. Just a bunch of Talibs firing, one of them fires a rocket. Footage is shot at night there is heavy firing in the background, and doesnt show any 'person' being attacked by the Talibs, neither does it suggest a location. Infact couple of Talibs are firing on 'kachcha' road between thick bushes on either side.

The video is highly malicious and far from being conclusive.
As Ive said before, anything of the sort of Indians being killed in Pakistan wouldnt go under the carpet. Had it been true, it would have created a diplomatic fiasco.

Also to test the credibility of a 'few good channels' in Pakistan, it would be interesting to see if Dawn News follows up on the report. If it doesnt, which I believe will happen, it is just another stunt like the one of 'Sukhoi's infiltrating' and 'Mukherjee threating Zardari War'.

To clear some things up; Taliban is anti non-Muslims and they were even against the Hindu's and Sikh's in Afghanistan and have treated them with a lot of disrespect. Indian consulates and embassies are in danger of bombs and once Taliban nearly succeeded. Of course they want West out of Afghanistan but they want Indians to get out too because India has helped in things with Afghanistan which is strictly against Taliban ideas; Women right and education for females. Plus Hindu's and Sikh's are allowed to celebrate their cultural and religious festivals now in Afghanistan, since Taliban is out of power. That's what made the Taliban get most angry about.

I never said I was concluding anything, and you haven’t seen the video closely enough. It was no fake fire-fight, tracers were flying dangerously close and even if the video was shot in some other fight, the Taliban were not doing too good. Also don't turn this thread into another 'Indian media is more responsible' boast arguments. As far as we're concerned, you have no reason to be so condescending given where you’re coming from.

There was definetly some 'real' fight going on no doubt. But that doesnt prove even one part of what the news report says. Nor does it even remotely suggest claims made by Dawn News that Indians were killed.

My country's media wasn't the one which came up with this news piece. Some jingoisim exist in all countries. Even the most unbiased media is suggestively biased.

All I say is that if Dawn News can back this up convincingly which I'm sure they can't given the immense disclarity about what they consider as the proof that Indians were killed(the 'friviolous video'), else just some garbage news.

Kaskrin, this is not the standard that we expect from a PDF moderator, i suggest you should remove your prejudice first and then look at the siutation as it is..!! If somebody is wrong, that will be proved with the backing of reports and facts here..!!!!
