Days after terrorists shot dead five workers from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district in Kashmir, 133 Bengali workers returned to their home state on Monday.
Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim received them, along with 5 workers from Assam who too took the Jammu Tawi Express to reach Bengal, at the Kolkata Railway Station on Monday.
The development comes after workers from Bengal who are employed in Kashmir wanted to return to their home state in the wake of the terrorist attack on October 29 in Kashmir. Out of the 133 workers from Bengal, a majority are from South Dinajpur district. Rest are from Malda, North 24 Paraganas and Birbhum districts.

As they got down from the train one by one, the workers were at once relieved to return home but also anxious about how they will earn their livelihood in future.

“In Kashmir, we get a higher wage which makes it a bit easier for us to sustain our families. Now that we can’t go back there how will we earn our living,” said Samirul Rehman, one of the workers said.

Speaking to reporters at the station, the urban development minister lashed out at a section of BJP leaders who claimed that the workers who died in the terror attack went to Kashmir as there was no employment in Bengal.
The allegation was recently made by BJP state president Dilip Ghosh.

“They are trying to cover up their own failure. Kashmir is now a Union Territory. Then why is it unsafe now? Why should Amit Shah not resign? Why is silent now?,” said Hakim.
While the workers from Bengal will be sent to their respective districts by buses arranged by the state government, those from Assam will first be sent to Cooch Behar district from where they will be sent to their home state.

. . .
Its on expected lines.
Outside workers, tourists, taxi/transport operators and outside students would be on the list of terrorists.
They want to spread fear among outsiders.

Unfortunately this will hamper locals, as business would suffer heavily if the the worker class moves out or if the transporters stop taking orders from kashmir due to fear. This terrorists will not find support from business class in such a scenario, some of whom have been bread & butter provider for these groups will find hard to sustain the heat.

Its sad that proper security cannot be guaranteed for all the outside workforce, but what hampers more is that politicizing of the issue. Lets see how govt tackles the security issues.

Most if not all are Muslims. Murshidabad is one of the most neglected districts in India.
Bengalis are in general neglected. They are now the Biharis of South India. So much that hiring a worker is now synonymous to hiring a Bengali who now does most of the menial jobs.

Indian occupiers are the terrorists here.

It is better to avoid going to Kashmir, move to places like Jammu or Ladakh where it's easier to find a job or start industries. Kashmir situation needs time to fix.
Develop these two regions better. No point holding development back in these two places because of one Kashmir.

They are returning not due to hate crime , because there is no work due to curfew. All businesses are closed.

Thats what has been plan, if you look at Ladhak UT, see the kind of area its been given.
Once the Kashmiris will see how Ladhak has been flourishing,(thankfully the adventure trip to Ladhak from Manali Side is attracting huge amount of tourists), they will have to question themselves why they have been left behind, is it because they were on wrong path...

Business houses dont close down completely, they just shifts its operation mode as per scenario
Secondly if there was no business, they would have gone back earlier...these are daily wagers they dont have huge pockets to keep themselves waiting out for months...

A simple question: Does a large group of people have the right to vote to stay in the country of their choice, especially when 30 percent of their land is already in the country they want to be in?

One doesnt need to vote, they can go to any country and stay there.
India doesnt limit it citizens from taking up residence in any other country and staying there.

Oh I did a trip there too, to Leh Ladakh (not bike trip). It lacks proper roads, especially when people take Kardung La pass trip, I don't get the fad, I went there for the snow and monasteries. The place lack a good hospital especially at those high altitudes, places to stay, see how such a touristy place has no real development.

For Kargil it's the worst, the upper Hardas region have shoddy houses, poor planning poor power connection. And almost no one visit those places, otoh quite scenic.

Once again you are proving your reptilian credentials. I meant a referendum with the choice of people TAKING THEIR LAND WITH THEM TO WHICHEVER COUNTRY THEY DECIDE.

Yes development has been lacking in these region, but then J&K state never focused on that part, its just that in last 10-15yrs Leh got into tourist sector and last decade it became adventure motorist fantasy world.
Things have improved a hell lot considered to what i have seen in early 90s.

Lets talk about Baluchistan rights with the choice of people TAKING THEIR LAND WITH THEM TO FORM THERE OWN COUNTRY.

And by the way separatist Kashmiris where for Independet Kashmir as a country...just in case you where still stuck with 2 nation theory...
