11-Year-old Girl Punished in School for Wearing 'Tilak' on Her Birthday

as I said earlier people lyk u nvr fail to amaze me...

Some people amaze easily.

now in a logic that people lyk u understand , the girl was punished and debarred from the school for wearing a tilak on her head, what would the school principal do if she finds a boy in the school with a chalk powder on his forehead?? it surely looks like vibudhi from shiv temple, does he get debarred too ??

You are assuming punishment but even of that were true, it would be silly to compare. The girl should have just wiped the tilak & gone to school or her parents should have and it also seems to be a case of wearing hairpins which i assume are prohibited for safety reasons.

the op says the girl was made to stand outside the principal room under the sun for 2 hrs, it dsnt say if she was made to stand within the corridors where there is shade or smewhere where the girl couldn't find no shade.. Unless you are an architect of the school, I am not sure how could u press hard that she was not made to stand under the sun.

Problem is that you either can't (or can't be bothered to) read or simply don't understand. Little wonder you are amazed. this is what the article said:

An 11-year-old girl in Telangana was allegedly made to stand for two hours outside her school principal's room as punishment for wearing a "tilak" on her birthday.

11-Year-old Girl Punished in School for Wearing 'Tilak' on Her Birthday

Nowhere in the article does it say she stood outside in the sun. That you presumably got from elsewhere. I don't have to be an architect to say that, just need not to have blinkers on.

.
Am i?
Show me any kid in St.Ann's who wears a Bindi,Ceremonail thread,Nose studs,Ear rings etc.
While all Christian girls are allowed to wear Crosses and religious icons of Christianity.
You can check even now, it's the same and i am not joking.
No they are not sought after by parents of all religions, sorry to say there are better standard schools in Hyderabad in recent times.

You can see clearly some of them are wearing ear rings, pendants and ceremonial thread on their hands.

I note your earlier posts. I am inclined to agree that dress codes must be observed and adhered to in all institutions. The Indian army and military forces are given much more leeway than the usual private institutions including schools for the reasons of discipline and service to the country. However, I am certain that you will agree with me that any law or rule which is unconstitutional cannot be adhered to or enforced ? If you are in agreement with me on that point, how can you justify the act of restricting a pupil's right to practice her religion freely by prohibiting her from using a tilak on her forehead after what is an auspicious day to her, despite the dress code of the school ? This not only applies to this pupil but will also apply for example to a Muslim female pupil who objects to using a short skirt on the premises that it will be against the rules laid down by her Prophet (PBUH) who instructed women to dress modestly. In a nutshell, can a dress code violate the rules of the Indian constitution? From your past posts, you are presumably a lawyer or a law student and hopefully can answer my query

There is no violation of the Indian constitution. Schools are allowed to have their own dress rules & unless someone makes the case that what the school is asking is clearly violative of fundamental rights & cannot be condoned by any reasonable standard, schools & clubs can and are permitted to have their own standards. There is no compulsion to attend that school, the individual concerned has a choice not to attend that institution.. That's pretty much common sense, one can claim religious practice and pretty much do anything. Where does one stop? Not like you can insist on practicing Hindu rituals inside a mosque or church because you claim right to practice your religion freely within India.

Here's another case:

.
What exactly is the complaint here. It is St.Ann's school, if they forbid sporting a tilak in the school, that would be their right just like there was a case of a Muslim boy being ejected for sporting a beard (SC ruled against in that case after initially ruling for) and some colleges in Mangalore have forbidden Muslim girls from wearing the head scarf.

College bans Muslim headscarf

btw, it is pretty clear that this story is being played up by vested interests. Not surprising.

See the addition of standing in the sun - like the Principal's office is in the middle of the desert.....

The original story carried this - "An 11-year-old girl in Telangana was allegedly made to stand for two hours outside her school principal's room as punishment for wearing a "tilak" on her birthday."

If that is the true reason then Why is the school called St. Ann ? Its clearly a Christian name. Do the principal there cover up ALL signs of religion from that school ? does she not have a Cross of a photo of Jesus in her room ?

Why are Religious symbolism allowed for Christians but not allowed for Hindu even on their Birthday ?

What about the principals comment that the 11 year old girl child must be made to scar, so that she had to remember this trauma all her life ?

What did she want that child to remember ? that demonstrating your are a Hindu will result in Terrible consequence ? That she should be ashamed of being a hindu and live in fear all her life ?

I can understand such serous reaction if she BROKE THE LAW or indulged in Vandalism etc. ...................... but punished for celebrating her birthday outside school and having a left over symbol on her ?

I doubt this story........ If it is true, it is utter nonsense.........

You make me SICK

Here is the proof that she was made to stand in the SUN.

What a sick BITCH that principal was. Govt. should immediately take over such institutions and put it under public control.

As you probably know, it is a minority religious institution set up on the basis of article 30 of the constitution. The rules apply for all students, unless there is proof that students are being discriminated on the basis of their religion, complaints don't fly. There are Hindu religious institutions with images of Hindu gods or Muslim institutions, all are allowed equal rights to frame their dress code.

Here is the proof that she was made to stand in the SUN.

Different version of the story where there is nothing mentioned about Principal's office and talks about punishment. There is also a complete rebuttal from the school which completely discounts the religious nature of the complaint. People will believe whoever they want, not much that can be said from here as to what happened.

mate, u r shifting the focus from the girl being punished and getting debarred from the school, for having a tilak to if she was made to stand under the sun or not ? how can u defend the principals move ? she was debarred at the end of her academic year, for wearing a tilak. for god's sake understand this. what was her crime ?? visiting a temple on her bday and wearing a tilak was that a crime?? and what is this logic in asking her to erase the tilak before gng to the school ? why should she ?? she isn't carrying any weapon to the school. If the principal had a problem with wearing a tilak she should have STFU and done her business. unlike the principal and school authorities the kid isn't rubbing her religious identity on others. isn't it a bias against hindu students in asking them not to show there religious identity, while the school is filled up with idols and photos of jesus ?? every day the students are made to sing songs on jesus, while they shouldn't follow there religious customs in the school premises ?? don't u think the time is right to question these double standards ?

That Principal of St Anne must be taught a lesson if she has a history of such ridiculous rules in school. We live in India, not some sharia compliant country or some Orthodox Christian state.

How can anybody reprimand someone just for sporting a tika or having a different hairstyle. Moron.

Minority religion institution allows for reservation of seats on the basis of religion, it does not allow for religions discrimiation.

Hindu religious institution do not disallow students with crosses around their neck or a taviz for a Muslim.

A school permitting religious symbolism of their faith, has no right to practice discrimination and demonstrate bigotry about students demonstrating religious symbolism. Certainly not on special occasions

Rules cannot be framed to allow for religious discrimination. such rules are in contrary to the LAW of the LAND. Such Rule cannot be permitted to act like fig leaves that hide their bigotry.

Why are the staff of St. Ann school showing religious symbolism ? How come the rules permit that ?

I would rather believe the 11 year old child than the principal who abused her and tried to scar her for life

Clearly your choose to believe otherwise :coffee: .. don't be such an apologist.

Dont come up with your Sanghi agenda. I can show you hundreds of photos of DAV Schools and Sarasvati Shishu Mandir Schools all over India with pictures and statues of Hindu Gods,Godesses and even religious flags!

They even make you recite hindu hymns during assembly. So please dont act like poor innocent hindu here. Its a common practice in all schools that are being run by religious institutes.

Here comes the Christian fanatics who find kinship with the principal.

Hindus schools put up the photos PROUDLY and do not practice religious discrimination unlike the christian school in question.

Hindus don't have Hymns you fool

I guess most of the posters here have never studied in convent schools or they would have seen by themselves that religious symbols are fully allowed in schools. I guess only Islamic caps are not allowed as I have never seen any of my muslim friends wearing those in schools.

Yes Chaddi, they sing rap songs!
