100 push ups a day

@ sports people

will 10 sets of 10 push ups and little over 1 hour of exercise help you get in better shape? My goal is to gain 10 pounds in 8 weeks... will this exercise help?

You want to gain 10 pounds or lose 10 pounds?

increase that 10 push ups per set to 20 and it might help :rolleyes:
and don't forget to use the running machine

Doing just push ups will not get you into shape. It will help increase your chest and tricep muscles. Do an overall workout.

I used to do 40, then 40 (after five min), then 20 push ups (after five mins) in a day. ANd 200 jumps and few hundreads of hand stretching in a day. 100 push ups in 10 sets in not good idea for me. It will not increase your strenth and threshold level so much.

sounds like a good idea.. I hardly use to do any push ups at all... i could hardly do 10 when i started but since the past week im doing atleast 100 pushups a day... I will try decreasing number of sets.

Treadmill is the best way to shed pounds, plus running increases your metabolism which helps you burn fat and keep it off. Pushups will only help build your upper body strength, their impact on your overall weight loss will be minimal.

Here is the poor man's training session:

3 Sets of 20 Pushups wide grip (chest + arms)
3 sets of 20 Pushups diamond grip (Triceps)
3 Sets of 20 Dips against a bench unless you have parallell bars (Triceps + shoulders)
3 Sets of pulls ups: 10 each: (Best upper body excercise)
Squats: Hindu style or arms extended (Quads+ core)

Thats a full body workout for you...

And oh yeah....30 second breaks between each set only
2 min break between excercises

This is obviously if you're skinny to begin with....to lose weight you will need to add cardio in the mix...
My personal suggestion is rowing as opposed to the treadmill

Yes, you have to do a balanced workout.

When I was a young man, I did massive amounts of bench pressing and abdominal exercises to improve the muscle mass up front. It unbalanced the muscles overall, and cause severe back spasms because my back muscles weren't strengthened too.

Definitely do some research. Good luck!

Squats! best workout. This is one exercise that can benefit almost every muscle in your body if you do them correctly and safely.

Squat+Drinking more water+fruits/Omega Fatty nuts = Win.

If you want to gain weight, avoid cardio.

Getting stronger is most important, then comes eating healthy and only then comes cardio. Focus on fat loss. Not weight loss.

Dont just do push ups. Combine it with Pull Ups, squats, lunges, other forms of free weight exercises. If you do only Push Ups, your body will develop in a disproportionate way. It's always best to join a gym.

Do what I do... 100 pushups. 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, pull-ups (as many as you can because these are harder).

Also apart from this the best way to loose is to get on the treadmill, get cycling or swimming.

just push-ups will make an unnatural balance.
push ups, squats and reps are for toning and not so much loosing weight.

i do about 1.5 hours of full body exercise including stretching as well. I needed to know if 100 pushups a day really help with ur strength.
