The 10th Round of High Level Military Dialogue Group (HLMDG) meeting concluded on the 3rd day between Pakistan and Turkey in the Ministry of Defence,Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak, Secretary Defence was leading the Pakistani delegation whereas Turkish delegation was headed by General Yasar GULER, Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff, Ministry of National Defence.
It may be recalled that the forum of HLMDG was established in 2001 for promoting defence collaboration between both brotherly countries. The 9th Round of HLMDG was held in Ankara, Turkey in October 2013. Under the umbrella of HLMDG, two Sub-Groups are formed, namely (a) Defence Industry Working Group under Ministry of Defence Production and (b) Politico Military Working Group under Joint Staff Headquarters.
The preliminary session opened with a welcome address by the Secretary Defence, Pakistan and the Turkish head of delegation, who are both Co-Chairmen of HLMDG from Pakistan and Turkey respectively. Both groups reviewed the progress and put forth their reports for deliberation before the Co-Chairmen. On reaching consensus based on mutual discussions, the minutes were signed. It was agreed that an Interim Progress Review will be conducted by both sides in April-May 2015 through diplomatic channels.
Pakistan and Turkey discussed regional matters of security and discussed the security paradigm. Both sides appreciated the extent of defence Industrial cooperation and desired to expand it to strategic level.Turkey and Pakistan have been cooperating in training and exercises and Turkish Navy’s participation in Aman Exercise has been significant in the past.
Turkish Delegation visited Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra earlier today. Turkish side showed keen interest in the top of the line JF-17 Thunder Aircraft being built at Kamra. They had a look at the facility and appreciated the skill and technical level of the workers and engineers. Turkish General Yasar Guler on the occasion said that “there is a great scope for Pakistan-Turkey in defence collaboration and aircraft manufacturing, engineering, repair and refurbishment holds lot of potential”.
The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Ankara next year which will further the process of collaboration and cooperation. Both sides impressed upon implementation of various decisions in true letter and spirit.

Islamabad, 22 October 2014: The10th HLMDG Meeting between Pakistan and Turkey which commenced on the 2nd day to discuss matters of training and defence equipment. The two meetings were held in Ministry of Defence and Defence Production respectively. The working group was headed by Major General Farrukh Bashir, DG FMC, JSHQ from Pakistan side and Major General Oguz Serhad HABIBOGLU, DG Force Improvement & Source Management, Head of Defence Industry Working Group from Turkish side.
Turkey and Pakistan have historical and brotherly relations and both sides wish to translate the relations to help each other in the field of defence, trade, economy and further the impetus. Secretary Defence Lt. General (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak during his remarks said “our resolve of a peaceful and stable region remains undeterred despite difficulties. Our Armed Forces are fighting the menace with full determination. Achieving peace in the region is of paramount importance”.
Turkish side also gave a presentation discussing the security situation and Regional Role. Turkish General Yasar Guler said both countries are cooperating in the field of air, sea and land and we must further diversify the scope of this cooperation.
Pakistan and Turkey have jointly been working in the field of Defence and recent strides in the field of communication, aircraft & shipbuilding is commendable. During a meeting with Secretary Defence Production Lt. General (Retd) Tanvir Tahir Turkish General Yasar Guler said that “Both Pakistan and Turkey should explore new ways of improving cooperation in the field of Defence. “Pakistan like Turkey is a future energy corridor and has an important place in the region”. Turkey showed great interest in coming and placing stalls at IDEAS 2014. They also showed interest in visiting the Defence Industries at Kamra, Wah, Taxila and Karachi.
The delegation also met other important offices before being hosted for an official dinner by Secretary Defence Lt. General (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak. The dinner was attended by important and senior people from both sides. Turkish General thanked Secretary Defence for kind hospitality and expressed happiness over the successful visit.

Islamabad - Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff, General Yasar Guler, on Thursday said that Pakistan and Turkey have a great scope and lot of potential in defence collaboration, aircraft manufacturing, engineering, repair and refurbishment.
He passed these comments during his visit to the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra along with Turkish defence delegation.

Keep a low profile. Turkey should invest in Pakistan's SHAHEEN-III SLV. Through dual use technology, this is the only way to transfer the medium long range strike options to Turkey.
