Forbes reveals World's Most Powerful People 2013 - with Vladimir Putin taking top spot

Maybe one of geopolitics’ hoariest cliches is in need of revision. At least since the end of the Cold War, “The most powerful man in the world” has been a standard appendage for the President of the United States. Now, if Forbes is to be believed, that title belongs to the leader of America’s vanquished Cold War rival, the President of Russia.

To be fair the Indian PM should be in the top ten. He is a leader of the second biggest country by population, the Indian military is the third largest by numbers, but also has a qualitative edge, the Indian economy is close to $2 trillion per year and also is a nuclear power. He is also the leader of the largest democracy and has considerable diplomatic clout. So surely he must be in the top ten!! These international lists and calculations do not make sense to me.
