Responding to a query of the Indian news media, AK Abdul Momen said Indian Foreign Minister (External Affairs Minister) Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told him that this is purely an internal issue of India and Bangladesh doesn’t need to worry about it.
“Under no circumstances, Bangladesh would be affected,” Momen quoted Jaishankar.
Responding to another query on whether the people left out are from Bangladesh, Momen said, “I don’t think so. Because if there is any Bangladeshi they might have gone before 1947 or before 1971. So, they have been living there for years. We don’t think they are Bangladeshi.”
“There is no reason why a Bangladeshi should move to India. Bangladesh is doing much better and therefore it does not look like there is any interest in any Bangladeshi to go to India. In Bangladesh, even the per capita income is comparatively higher than the cost of living. There is no possibility of moving to India,” the minister also said.
“I don’t know how they have counted the numbers,” he added.

Assam final NRC list released: 19,06,657 people excluded, 3.11 crore make it to citizenship list
The citizens' list was updated after 68 years, ending four years of work and a four-decade-old demand seeking detection of illegal immigrants.
The list - known as the National Register of Citizens, or NRC - is unique to Assam and was first prepared in 1951. It includes those whose names appeared in the 1951 document and their descendants. The list also includes those who had been on India's electoral rolls up to March 24, 1971, or in any other document approved by the central government.
"The entire process of NRC update has been meticulously carried out in an objective and transparent manner," the registry authorities said in a statement.
Earlier Saturday, a steady trickle of people lined up to see if their names were on the list in Buraburi village outside one of the many offices that had been set up across Assam for residents to verify the status of their citizenship applications.

Mijanur Rahman, a 47-year-old farmer, found himself, his 21-year-old son, and two of his daughters, aged 16 and 14, included on the list. However, his wife and his other three daughters - all under the age of 10 - were excluded.
"I am really worried," said a teary-eyed Rahman. "We will see what the government does now. Maybe they will offer some help."
Dipali Das, 42, clad in a saree, found herself, her husband and her four married daughters on the list. But Das was unhappy because her 23-year-old son, Rahul, was excluded. She said she will put in an application for his inclusion.

Binoy Bhushan Sarkar, a frail man in his late 70s, said he has been voting since the age of 21, including in recent national elections. He was confused after finding his name on the online list but not on the hard copies available for public viewing. "I don't know what to do," he said.
Retired army officer Mohammad Sanaullah, who grabbed the spotlight after being declared an illegal foreigner and was sent to a detention center last month, was excluded from the list. Sanaullah, who had won a President's medal, was declared a foreigner by the Foreigners Tribunal in 2018. He was sent to a detention camp in May before he was granted bail by the high court.
The government said it carried out the mammoth exercise to detect and deport undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh. But the final publication of the citizenship list has stoked fear of loss of citizenship and long periods of detention.
It is unclear what happens next.
The central and state governments, however, have clarified that those left off the final citizenship list won't be declared foreigners.
The options for those left off the list include appealing to the Foreigner Tribunals within 120 days of Saturday's announcement. The tribunals must decide on the cases within six months. If an appeal fails, the consequences include punishment in detention centers that are currently being set up by the government.

Amnesty International expressed concerns about the functioning of the Foreigners Tribunals. The rights group also urged the Assam government to ensure that "the Foreigners Tribunals function with utmost transparency and are in line with the fair trial standards guaranteed under national and international law."
A draft citizenship list that was published last year excluded more than 40 lakh people, after which many either fled the state or even took their lives in exasperation.
Home Minister Amit Shah earlier called Bangladeshi migrants "infiltrators" and "termites."
The Narendra Modi-led government, which fully backs the citizenship project in Assam, has often vowed to roll out a similar plan nationwide.
Earlier this summer, India's Supreme Court criticised the central government and Assam's government, saying thousands of people who had been declared foreigners over the years had disappeared.
Assam, with a population of 3.3 crore, was in a state of high alert and additional security forces were deployed in anticipation of possible violence following the publication of the list. There were no reports of unrest immediately after the list was made public.

Guwahati: Even though the much-awaited National Register of Citizens (NRC) was released on Saturday, some of the front-ranking organisations of the state, including the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), have expressed unhappiness over the number of people excluded from the final list.
While the Congress party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) lashed out at the BJP over the NRC in Assam, organisations like the All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) believes that names of genuine Indian citizens have figured among the list of people excluded from the final list.
Announcing that it will appeal against the final NRC in the Supreme Court, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that there were some deficiencies in the updating process of the NRC. “We are not happy at all. It seems there were some deficiencies in the updating process. We believe that it is an incomplete NRC. We will appeal to the Supreme Court to remove all the faults and discrepancies in this NRC,” Gogoi said.
The AASU is a signatory to the Assam Accord, a 1985 document that provided for “detection, deletion and deportation” of illegal foreigners from Assam.
The NRC in the state has been updated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court to include only genuine Indian nationals. “The final figure of exclusion did not reach near the figures officially announced by the authorities on various occasions over the years,” it regretted.
The students’ body also criticised both the Centre and state governments for their various policies in this regard.
AASU leaders addressing media persons in Guwahati on Saturday
Terming the number of exclusions of people from the final NRC appear to be "ridiculously small”, president of the AGP and state Cabinet minister Atul Bora, said, “We (AGP) are not at all happy about it (the exclusions). The figure of 19,06,657 exclusions in the final NRC is too less and we just cannot accept it. There is scope for its review in the Supreme Court,” Bora said, adding: “The people of Assam had hoped for a free and fair NRC but it now seems that the very existence of the Assamese will be further threatened.”
The AGP will hold discussions and chalk out its future course of action regarding a review of the NRC in the Supreme Court, he added.

Addressing a press conference soon after announcement of the NRC list, president of the state unit of the BJP Ranjit Kumar Dass expressed serious concern over the number of people excluded from the list. He also criticised the authorities in the NRC for ignoring the interest of the genuine Indian citizens of the country.
Earlier, Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he was unhappy with the final list of the NRC in Assam. Sarma, the chief architect of BJP’s recent growth in the Northeast and a proponent of the NRC, said a number of people were included in the final NRC list because of “manipulation” of legacy data.
On one hand, Sarma alleged that a number of people made it to the final NRC list due to manipulation of data, while on the other hand he claimed that many Indians were excluded because the authorities refused to accept refugee certificates as documents for the NRC exercise.
“Names of many Indian citizens who migrated from Bangladesh as refugees prior to 1971 have not been included in the NRC because authorities refused to accept refugee certificates. Many names got included because of manipulation of legacy data as alleged by many,” Sarma said.
State Congress chief Ripun Bora held the BJP responsible for any discrepancies in the final NRC list
Ripun Bora, president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, commented that the officials conducting the NRC process were the employees of the Assam government. He contended that it was the government’s duty to check whether the list contained the name of a ‘foreigner’ or that a bona fide Indian’s name was missing in the NRC. Bora held the BJP responsible for any discrepancies in the final NRC list.

Talking to media, Azizur Rahman, adviser, AAMSU, expressed full faith in the Supreme Court and the NRC process. “We have full faith in the Supreme Court of India and we believe that the apex court will take adequate initiatives to include the names of genuine Indians whose names have been excluded from the final list of the NRC,” Rahman said.
“NRC is a scientific process. Six layers of verification process were maintained before releasing the final NRC. I don’t think that it won’t be possible to include the names of the foreigners in the final NRC,” he added. The minority students’ leader also expressed serious concern that name of person like Sanaullah has been excluded from the finals list of the NRC.
Sanaullah, who served the Indian Army for more than three decades, was sent to a detention camp in Goalpara after he was declared a ‘foreigner’ by a Foreigners' Tribunal in Assam on May 23. Later, the division bench of Gauhati High Court granted interim bail to him with a surety amount of Rs 20,000.
The Prabajan Virodhi Manch (PVM), an anti-influx body of the state, led by Supreme Court lawyer Upamannyu Hazarika, blamed the ruling government of shedding crocodile tears. It alleged the state government of doing “too little and too late” when it comes to the NRC. Following the release of the first draft, PVM was among the first to demand a re-verification of NRC list.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday lashed out at the BJP over the NRC in Assam.
“BJP should learn a lesson. They should stop asking for NRC throughout the country in terms of Hindus and Muslims. They should learn from what has happened in Assam. The so-called myth of illegal migrants has been busted. Many people in Assam have told me that the parents’ names are included, but names of their children are excluded. For example, Mohammad Sanaullah, he has served in Army. His case is pending in High Court. I am sure that he will also get justice,” he said.
The final National Register of Citizens in Assam was finally released on Saturday. The list has identified 3.11 crore applicants as citizens, excluding names of 19.07 lakh hopefuls, the NRC state coordinator’s office said.

I have two laywer friends in Assam Govt. 0.5 mil Hindus. 1.4 mil Muslims.
BJP is not happy as it wants more Muslims out.
In the FOreigner Tribunals, all Hindus will get citizenship and Muslims will get tickets to concentration camps.
Keep on saying Joy Bangla while innocent Muslims are being butchered.
But then from the Rohingya episode one thing is clear - you remain less Muslim and more nationalist.

Let me respond to that as an Indian and an Assamese, no one is going to drive them to Bangladesh, contrary to your belief. They are our citizens as of now, our much maligned BJP government (from nefarious quarters belonging to your Pakistan and BD) will extend them all legal help and ample time to contest their cases in our courts.
BTW mate, what would you do with your illegal migrants in your country after such an exercise?

I am just staying that my state government will extend to those not included all possible help to prove their citizenship, only after the due process is followed will we take further actions. And that will not be necessarily restricted to the NRC. BTW, from what i hear there are lakhs of Bongal illegals in your country also.
