Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 1,500 of Indonesia's pre-dated artefacts have been repatriated for the first time ever from Museum Nusantara in the Netherlands, a high-ranking official said here, Thursday, citing collections that arrived on December 23, 2019. "The collections earlier had been displayed at Museum Nusantara or Museum Prisenhof in the Netherlands," the Ministry of Education and Culture's Director General of Culture, Hilmar Farid said.

During the Dutch colony's occupation of Indonesia, thousands of the country's historic artefacts were seized for both museum and personal collections. Most of the artefacts were found in Delft, a city where most bureaucrats of the Dutch Indies took their degrees.

Before the repatriation, the Indonesian government had been negotiating with the Government of the Netherlands since 2015, Farid explained.

"We expect more of Indonesia's heritage items to return home in the future. We thank the National Museum of Indonesia as it has assisted the four-year repatriation process," he explained.

Not all artefacts were repatriated to Indonesia, according to the director general. "During the negotiation, we had selected which artefacts we need for National Museum's collections," he added.

In EXCHANGE of...???? :what: No such thing as free lunch, particularly when your dealing with Nederland. There is ALWAYS a catch

The most important thing is that the artifacts are well preserved. It doesn't matter if they are in Netherlands or in Indonesia.

I hope there is National Museum website where we can see the collection of those repatriated artefacts. A bit lazy to go to Museum for that.

. . . .
I believe its a goodwill, and I don't think there is a catch.
I mean if we lobby the dutch to return the artifacts they are not in a good position to refuse, if they refuse that won't good for them (and our netizen won't just let it slide), I mean its ours and they steal it and if they return it at least they can show some good deeds and by returning some of the artifacts (small amount of it, at least they still can have the big amount of the artifact and the pressure will lessen too) as written in the article that we will only take what we need ( hasil negonya gitu mungkin, dibalikin tapi cuman dikit trus ga boleh lagi minta dibalikin lagi nantinya) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Would be different if the stuff displayed in their museum is donated by us, and not stolen hot stuff.

They plundered our resources, killing our people stealing our artifacts and we still need to pay the Dutch East Indies debt.:hitwall:
Doesn't sound good for them, and also their government got sued because of what dutch forces did in the past, and iirc they lost in court. And that doesn't help their position, regarding Dutch East Indies - Indonesia history.
IMO
