Everyone must sing ‘Vande Mataram’, insists BJP minister who is unable to sing it himself
Another minister can barely recite the song, with mangled lyrics.

There is a rising demand among BJP ministers to make Vande Mantaram mandatory in all schools of the country. Unfortunately, some of the active propagators of this agenda are themselves unable to deliver when they’re asked to “prove their nationalism” by singing the poem from Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Anandamath.

And that’s what happened during a Newsroom debate with India Today anchor Rahul Kanwal, when UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare, the BJP’s Baldev Singh Aulakh, was asked to sing four lines. A video (above) shows that Aulakh applied every tactic to get himself out of singing, though he kept insisting that every citizen of the country must sing the National Song.

The anchor even stopped the debate midway and asked the minister pointedly, several times, whether he knew the song or not. Aulakh kept deflecting the question, and made up one excuse after another to avoid singing the song, including the NDA government, Independence Day celebrations, not wanting a certificate for singing, a performance over the telephone for the anchor, and much, much more.

Elsewhere, BJP Minister Raj Purohit in Maharashtra, who had previously made a furore outside the State Assembly, was also asked to sing Vande Mataram. This is what he came up with (below):

And these Sanghi morons who are busy certifying others and issuing nationalism certificates...

The most fanatic Nazi Gaultiers, who prescribed shoot at sight any civilian who would attempt evacuation in the face of a Russian onslaught, were the first ones to flee their cities. Radical nationalists have often failed to comply their own prescriptions. Nothing new in it.

Kejriwal would be a better choice:tup:
If you are supporting Kejriwal that is fine but then again supporters of Kejriwal should know that this is an international forum where you represent India not individual parties. Your view points are viewpoints of India not of AAP or BJP.

Badmouthing your own country just for the sake that you dont like your current governance is not going to make things better either. I had high hopes with him but than he started acting like a loony bin and same is the pattern i have seen with his supporters. Its ok to question the government but then this is international forum not indian domestic politics. I am no one to suggest though but i dont think washing your laundry in public is a good idea.

And where exactly did I badmouth my own country?

Well i have seen ample places where you are trying to either internationalize domestic issues, trying to give fodder to those "who are against us" to be used as brownie point. It is the same reason why Kejriwal lost his charisma. Its about blindly opposing everything for the sake of being in opposition. Gau rakshak crap is bad no doubts about it but majority sentiment should be respected there aint any doubt that either. But being selective is something which led to the downfall of Kejriwal.

Request you to please represent India not AAP or whatever ideology you want to follow. Indianism superseds all. Sorry if i offended you in any way. I am out as this is off topic

Well then I am sure you've also noticed that there are many "nationalist" Indians who abuse and malign fellow compatriots just because they follow a different faith. So are they not domestic issues? I have no where attacked my country but yes I did criticize and attack these posters and the ideology they represent. Let me tell you that I don't mind accepting the shortcomings of my country even in international forums and that doesn't make me anti-national. Why hide those shortcomings and believe that nothing is wrong with my country.

You dont have to be a hyper nationalist and abusive if you consider yourself a sane nationalist and i dont deny the fact that you should be highlighting short coming of your country. But those short comings should not be presented in a way to make them look like that even Indians dont want to live in the current setup. After all India is a democracy and in an ideal democracy, one should respect the view of majority. You may dislike modi or whomever but at the end of the day he is prime minister of India and if not should be respected for the chair he holds.

I dont favor the hyper nationalists either but then again i would advise to be rational. Not everything anti AAP is black. AAP has done some good things but their screwups superseds them. At the same time Kejriwal as individual is not fit for the post of PM. If he cannot rise up to the challenge of Modi and can get fck up I am sure he is going to face far intelligent people in International arena.

Modi being right or wrong is another debate. Lets leave it to that. But yeah he earned my respect for the way he has demonised and destroyed the opposition including Kejriwal. Kejriwal had an opportunity to rise to national scale but then he is not the right person the way he handled domestic politics. Till he is replaced by someone better AAP does not has a chance.

Not a comparison. Its not the same congress.
In fact Gandhi wanted the Congress party not to remain as a political party.

Look mate, we have different positions and understandings on terms like nationalism and patriotism and what they stand for. I can delve deep and this conversation can go on and on so let's leave it at that. Just an article you might it find worth reading.

It may not be the same Congress but many of the leaders of the new Congress did participate in freedom movement.
