US approves sale of 22 Guardian drones to India

Unarmed drones can be more dangerous than armed ones. Why do you think the US spent billions developing Global Hawk and it's derivatives even though they're all "unarmed"?

Indeed you have to pay the price either go for recon planes or armed planes because they tend to add more weight. It be like trying to put Global Hawk with missiles while armed.

US wants to make India another Japan. To help US fend off Chinese sea power from that region. It will be interesting to see how these drones are controlled since long range drone control often requires satellite data link.

Congratulations on getting new "toys". :)

Yeah and whats your take on making Pakistan your bitch?

For your information we already have a constellation of regional satellites that will be used to provide gps like capability exclusively to south asia region.
So we have that covered.

Perhaps China's mindset thinks India doesn't have GPS.

The future, even if it looks costly.
They can operate from carriers too with slight modification. And have nearly the same monitoring range of the P-8I with far less operating costs and price(though less sophisticated detection and no weapons).
In land battles they will be co-ordinating our forward strike assets ,and may also be used for strikes on terror camps if necessary.Very flexible
Exactly....they complement nicely with P8i and can effectively cover IOR!!
Triton would've been a awesome addition but they are way too expensive!

since when GPS is a drone control system?

since when GPS is a drone control system?

Since Iran spoofed our drone and made it land in their military airbase. So they said. We have small drones these days that relied on GPS to guide where to go. Come on even I know about China's made DJI drone.

since when GPS is a drone control system?
GPS was made for US military use, it was then provided for worldwide use after its huge economic potential was understood.
Drone technology is made possible only because of such satellites.

How far can this drone see from a static point??
Can some one shed some light

Can be arm?

Industry sources told IHS Jane's that with India having joined the MTCR a fresh round of consultations would take place regarding the Guardian's weaponised variant. It is estimated that the IN, which currently employs Israeli Searcher II and Heron UAVs, is likely to acquire additional platforms beyond the initial 22.

Earlier efforts by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to import General Atomics Predator Avenger UAVs in 2015 were rejected by Washington given that India was not an MTCR member at the time and hence not eligible to acquire the weaponised platforms. Now that the situation has changed the IAF is expected to also restate its UAV requirements via an LoR to the US, MoD officials said.

Besides joining the MTCR, India was also granted 'Major Defense Partner' status by the US during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent trip to Washington, DC. In their 7 June joint statement India was assured access to US technology to a level commensurate with that of Washington's closest allies.

Useless drones China make far more better drones at cheaper effective price
