Exclusive - Saudi Arabia, U.S. in talks on billions in arms sales

That is seriously a lot. Which nation in the world would need 110 billion dollars worth of weapons immediately? With this type of money, they can easily start up their own major defense industry (and keep it one of the top-budget in the world). They should seriously invest somewhere else.

Well instead of R&D those tech in the coming decades... they choosed to buy the Tech with some sort of enought ToT/manufacturing to be able to do it inland and almost alone...
As for Engines/motors (in the future) etc... they will mostly turn to Turkey when they finish developing it to dev their own "indegenious" ones... since US do not ToT or share manufacturing for those parts...

They bought an enlarged LCS at a price of 3B dollar a piece. So it is not simply a military deal, but also protection fee for the royal family

Did you do some math at school??
let's do it together...shall we??
Deal =6$Bill
Divided by 4 LCS= 6/4 = 1.5Bil

That's just to get out you low mathproblem...

But the main Answer here... is that 6bil$ IS NOT only for 4 ships... you get the armement/training/spare parts/and ToT...
A freedom class is aorund 400Mil$... only the ship...with nothing on it... so you get to add around 800Mil-1Bil$ per ship to add Armemant/parts/training AND ToT...

ps: You don't get to protect the royal family with LCS... neither by a 6Bil$ deal either ...try to grow up a little...and stay objective...will you...

*shane mcmahon theme plays*

Hopefully!

Arab defense force, Peninsula defense forces, IMAFT bro. You need a lot of weapons for these types of projects and thankfully America has them!

350 bill over 10 yrs:o:, is tot and setting up local manufacturing included in that or are they just buying of the shelf, maybe they are planning for a blue water navy in a decade....

It's not a deal. It's a colonial tax/fee that the US is extracting from the Saudis.

With such immense expenditure on defence, Saudi Arabia should have been in top ten major world military powers.

But it's no way near that! Hell, US does $350B deals and at the same time says locally "Israels military edge will be kept" (saw it myself here on news in the US).

That is shameful and humiliating for Saudi Arabia! What a shame.

Instead, Saudis should invest in Turkish or Pakistani joint ventures and become defense industrial producers in the long term.

OFFCOURSE, US surpasses everyone else combined in terms of offering credible and best technological capabilities---but we all know that the amount being paid by KSA is extremely overwhelming compared to capability they are receiving

It doesn't seem to be a list for equipping more than 1 military.

My dad's going to call me in 20 minutes tell me I should have listened to him about doing engineering. :big_boss:

Pakistani front will open doors for saudis in china and china isnt that much behind the Us now in some imp techs, that amount could've easily bought the KSA several tot deals for major stuff, but as u said, its not the arabs that the Us are dealing with but a single family....

It doesn't seem to be a list for equipping more than 1 military.

As of March 2011, the Peninsula Shield Force was commanded by Major General Mutlaq bin Salem Al Azima and has about 40,000 troops[3] and continues to have its permanent base at King Khalid Military City near Hafar al Batin.[3]

"In 2015 the heads of Arab league countries agreed to form a joint Arab military force. This force would comprise some 42,000 elite troops, supported by war planes, naval vessels and light armour.[4]"

IMAFT will be a heavily equipped and heavily trained most likely rapid deployment force that will be deployed in Multiple intense and hot combat zones for anywhere from months to years. So I will guess anywhere from 10,000-70,000 not including Artillery,Tanks,Planes,APCs,etc

Seems like they need a lot of Equipment.

More than 500 US companies are going to invest 10 billion dollars in KSA in the next year. The investment is expected to reach 50 billions by the next decade. So 5 billions each year.

A lot of promising economic deals were signed at the Saudi Arabian-US CEO forum.

Leading US firms (not only in the US but the entire world obviously) will help KSA implement the ambitious visions stated in the Saudi Vision 2030 as well.

Save your time brother.

@The SC kindly add more information in this thread if you see it as you have done an excellent job (as usual) on the Middle East and Africa section, brother.

Arab will suprass arab nothing more:-), they will never achieve more then spare parts manufacturer. They will learn that critical parts never will be shared. How much money you put on the table that doesn't matter. Ther is something they will learn, knowhow is something to be worked. And keeping that engine working you need industry that you never will achieve with this way.

And why that rush to buy urgent need for 110 billions weapons?

So, it's modeled on NATO Battle Groups not the greater NATO organization.

Each member nation will send a few hundred to thousand troops to be commanded by IMAFT.
