What's new

Pakistani Senator calls for the development of an indigenous Nuclear Attack Submarine.

Perhaps but if need arises important stuff can always be acquired from a time tested friend.
China and Pakistan are surely friends. But Nuclear Submarine is not something can be traded between friends. China certainly will not be against any try by Pakistan. But I doubted China will transfer these sort of thing to Pakistan unless USA cross the bar too much on Indian nuclear issue.
BTW, no offense, it is just national interest.
Many Chinese always think that Russia lease a nuclear submarine to Inidia is reckless for international politics. Maybe Russian have different mindset, who knows.

An R&D organisation has been working on the development of a miniaturised nuclear power plant in collaboration with PAEC that can fit a submarine size and work in a submersible structure / vehicle. What I heard was they had been successful in developing but due to unavailability of the funds and change of priorities an indigenuous nuclear sub program was not launched and rather Pakistan went with 8 (6 + 2) S-20 Chinese submarines.

The people who make decisions in Pakistan mostly undermine indigenous development unless and until it becomes inevitable since 1) they get hefty kickbacks which ensures a good life post retirement and 2) they do not trust the nation's talent and 3) they lack the ability to think in the longer terms and ad hoc-ism is the rule. Pakistan's nuclear program, JF17 thunder and all other indigenous programs were started when embargoes and sanctions or political difficulties made them inevitable.
what result we can get from Indian indigenous nuclear sub ?

There are two important strategic weapons that India fields and Pakistan doesn't, ICBMs and nuclear submarines..Pakistan according to many sources has done work on both of them, it might need some heavy political backings and the right circumstances to field them, so as the senator stated, it is the need of the hour..speaking about the nuclear submarines, since the Indian ones represent a much bigger threat to deal with than the ICBMs that are China's specific and will be dealt with by China..

INDIA WANTED A BLANKET BAN ON MEDIA COVERAGE
REGARDING INS ARIHANT NUCLEAR SUBMRINE.
Nuclear Submarine is most wanted project for safeguard of Pakistan national interest but we always hunted by west and US sanctions on the name of Nuclear issues it is therefore a dire need to hide Pakistan nuclear submarine project developments from unnecessary media coverage to safe our national interests from western sanctions because we always beat and surprised our enemiesby our many suddenly successful projects as example our surprised Nuclear tests in 1998, our missiles tests and recently surprised of Babar 3 test we need to continue nuclear submarine project in background.
if we look into the our enemy Indian side they are always trying to hide their nuclear submarine developments.
The Indian nuclear sub INS Arihant had started undergoing sea acceptance trials and will be inducted without much fanfare under presume instructions from National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval who for long wanted a blanket ban on media coverage regarding INS Arihant.
http://idrw.org/ins-arihant-goes-silent/ .

I do not mean to discourage anyone. but the industrial chain is simply too long for Pakistan, ~8000 factories to support such business.
A AIP submarine with Babur 3 is almost perfect for Pakistan.
But Pakistan can always try.
Yes Pakistan haven't the 8000 factories to support such business because Pakistan want nuc submarine not business and Pakistan have some experience to build An AIP capable submarine in shape of AGUSTA for fulfillment of her own needs.

It is always good to have ambition. good luck.

China too is next door to India, what justifies India's nuclear submarines?
India has ambitions to be a world power.

Also I'm not sure if it's part of their strategy or not but India might want it's submarines roaming in South China Sea and nearer eastern China since that's where most of China's biggest cities and population lives. That is quite a distance away from any Indian naval bases and hence the possible need for a longer range.

Even if none of the above reasons justify them having a nuclear submarine, still we shouldn't blindly follow what India is doing. Instead let's focus on what's better for Pak to ensure a credible deterrence.

If u think that Pak definitely needs a nuclear powered submarine then refute the key points I mentioned and shed some light on ur point of view backing it up in context of Pak's strategy/needs etc.

It seems like this time USA needs burnol.
Lol, Are we going to destroy U.S.A? Then what is purpose of getting nuclear powered submarine? It doesn't fit in our doctrine as India is only enemy, and diesel power submarines can possess enough threat to enemy. It can stay around 3 months under water with nuclear tipped cruise missiles.
No need to waste money on nuclear powered submarines. Spend same money on Medium & long range SAMS instead of 2 nuclear powered submarine. We are much lacking in SAMS which is very important part of defense.

A credible triad deterrence requires the strategic asset called nuclear submarines, If you look at every nuclear power, you'll find out that they _all and without exception_ field nuclear subs.. it is a strategic asset.. for Pakistan, it can even replace the need for ICBMs.. two such submarines will be ideal for deterrence purposes and credible second strike capability.. the surprise factor is paramount to this capability, AIP equipped subs can do it, but in a somehow limited way.. what you want is an unlimited way which translates to nuclear subs capability..

The best AIP Subs can stay submerged for around 6 weeks, not 3 months..Nuclear ones can do it for up to 6 months,, there is an obvious difference in capabilities..
Yes a whole BMD system should be worked out to protect Pakistan..but since no BMD is 100% sure, the deterrence gap would be filled by other strategic assets like Nuclear Submarines, France has very small ones 5000/6000 t, and they seem to be enough of a deterrent.. the Chinese Shang is around 7000/8000 t..(depending on the variant.G-like variant would be ideal for Pakistan)

The Chinese one have about 120,000 parts, made by 8000 different factories. of the 8000 factories, 10% are dedicated only for nuclear industry.

That's 800 factories for nuclear industry.
Thats a good number.

How much for an Aircraft? Like JF-17 ?

Financing is the real problem. Pakistan doesnt afford R&D of a nuclear sub and I dont think KS&EW has enough space and tech to manufacture components of a nuclear sub. While we have to pay billions for purchasing 8 diesel electric subs from China, managing other purchases and projects (potentially JF-17 Block-III) along with developing an indigenous nuclear sub in a limited budget cant be done. So I dont see a nuclear sub in PN fleet in near future.
Requirement for SSN is there but yes financing will be a challenge. In addition, PN will need three SSN's, one patrolling, one at the doc undergoing maintenance, and one getting ready to go out patrolling. It will be bucket loads of dollars.

Nuclear subs are expensive to build and expensive to run.
UK small fleet along with Tridents cost the country two billion pounds an year to maintain.

Not saying anything...........until 2 days ago no one knew we not only have SLCM tech but fully operational SLCM's, we have been working on nuclear propulsion for many years, I wouldn't be surprised if 2 of the new Chinese subs are powered by Pakistan's very own nuclear power plants..

I was relating my post to the sanctions by USA. Like Sanctions like those are not gonna stop Pakistan towards its Defense with every growing day. I agree with your point of views otherwise.
