TTP chief gunned down by guard in FATA
By Tahir Khan
Published: December 9, 2016

ISLAMABAD: A senior Pakistani Taliban leader, Fazal Saeed Haqqani, was shot dead in the Kurram tribal region by one of his guards on Thursday, sources said.

Haqqani had served as head of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Kurram Agency under the leadership of Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike near Miramshah in 2013.

He had later parted ways with the TTP and launched his own faction Tehreek-e-Taliban Islami against the bombings of mosques and civilians.

But official sources in the region said that Haqqani had been behind a series of attacks and targeted killings in Parachinar.

Militant sources said that a guard shot Haqqani multiple times near his home where he was present with other militants. Another commander Sher Zaman was also killed in the firing. The attacker, identified as Idrees Afridi from Khyber Agency, fled after the incident, the authorities said. Idrees had been working as Haqqani’s guard for three years, sources close to the group said.

Motives behind the attack were unclear and no group claimed responsibility. It is believed that Haqqani may have been targeted due to internal differences among the Taliban groups.

Haqqani had set up his own huge structure in Tor Ghar near Orakzai Agency. He was among the several influential Taliban commanders when he was part of the TTP. The militant group announced that his funeral will be held in Lower Kurram on Friday.

The TTP and other armed groups are believed to be in disarray after a major military offensive in the tribal regions and Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.

The military insists all the Pakistani Taliban groups now operate from the Afghan side of the border.

Looks like ISI worked its magic. Hope more of these scums bite the dust.
Zulu 786.... :D, however, such work needs to be speedup and stronger by manifolds for the peace and prosperity. What a fine day (Friday) chosen for a great job.

You are ignoring one angel of this issue. Fazal Saeed Haqqani left TTP in 2013 after the start of Zarb e Azb and accusing them of RAW agents. He was one of the TTP who took the life line of PA to renounce violence. He and Punjab TTP Amir Muwaviya took the lifeline. Most probably it is the TTP Hit squads who were after this guy not the PA. You see PA knew all along about his position. He is comfortably living in house and PA wouldnot know about it ?

"Haqqani, once considered a highly active commander of the TTP, had formed his own faction after a split emerged in the TTP.

The former head of TTP in the Kurram tribal region had accused TTP's top leadership of killing his commanders and innocent people, and also accused them of being involved in kidnapping for ransom

He was said to be involved in various terrorists attacks in Upper and Lower Kurram agencies."

I don't think ISI is much active these days, lal masjid terrorists are roaming free in Islamabad, and LEJ still active in some parts of Punjab.
There are few groups in taliban fighting each other. This TTP chief was killed by own guard.

As the shooter was his Guard since 3 years, so indeed not a PA job. However, these factions are eliminating each other in such a way to establish their own influence while on other hand helping to minimize the threats. Now the mourning group can take on anyone from the possible attacking side.

Punjab chapter is solely responsibility of PMLn/ruling party that did allow the military to take on these terrorists. The day, permission is given, we will be seeing a drastic change and hunt in Punjab as well. PMLn is securing its election campaigners and don't want to loose the influential tools which will ultimately affect their election wins.

Good riddance.
