T90 Compared with Al Khalid

is the airconditioning problem solved yet in indian t-90? Its been over a year you know

The Indian Army has received approval from its Ministry of Defence (MoD) to move ahead with its planned upgrade of more than 600 Russian-built T-90 main battle tanks (MBTs).More than $250m are scheduled to be spent on installation of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-built air-conditioning systems, and replacement of the tanks' existing thermal imaging sights, navigation systems and fire control systems.

One Army official said the absence of an air conditioning system in T-90 tanks caused damage to their thermal imaging systems during operation in hot climates.
"The Russians were asked to fit air conditioning systems, but the attempt was unsuccessful."

Indian Army retired brigadier general and defense analyst Arun Sehgal said: "DRDO had earlier attempted to mount air conditioning systems on the tanks, but were stopped by Russia, citing intellectual property rights.
"The Russians were then asked to fit the air conditioning systems in the T-90 tanks, but the attempt was unsuccessful."

This thread reads like a thrilling series, each post is full of action, romance, comedy and deceit.

here is something fro you, did you know the Russian Army refused to induct further t-90 and those tanks were sent to Algeria? Also, this is what the General had to say regarding the UVZ and the tank back then...

Nikolai Makarov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, ripped to pieces the statement from defense industry officials a couple of days ago. The officials said that the T-90 tank was one of the best tanks in the world. Makarov claimed that the tank could meet only a certain part of requirements of the Defense Ministry. The vehicle had many drawbacks, Makarov said. The general believes that Uralvagonzavod, which makes the T-90, could only make a good tank turret.

It is not the first time, when T-90 becomes an object of criticism. Alexander Postnikov, the Commander of the Russian Ground Forces, stated in March 201 that the tank was too expensive for the budget. Russia could instead purchase German Leopards for the same money, Postnikov said. In November 2010, the Russian tank did not withstand comparison with Israel's Merkava tanks. Nikolai Makarov stated that the destruction system of the Russian tank was not good enough.

more on Russia refused to induct further t-90.....

In 2011, the Russian Defense Ministry stopped purchasing T-90 tanks. It was not only about the claims to the combat qualities of the tank, experts said. The price was the main problem. The Russian army has many T-72 tanks. It is possible to modernize those tanks to the T-90 level, and the process will eventually be 3-4 times cheaper. The maker of T-90, Uralvagonzavod, already has a three-year contract for the modernization of hundreds of T-72 tanks, The Vedomosti wrote.

There will be no orders for the Russian army for the upcoming five years. "We have a complex situation with ground troops. We have stopped purchasing armored vehicles. We gave designers five years to develop new types of military hardware," RIA Novosti quoted Makarov as saying.

Instead, the Russian tanks will be delivered abroad. Russia will soon catch up with China on the sales volume of this hardware. In the summer of 2011, Russia signed a contract with Turkmenistan for the delivery of 20 T-90C tanks. Russia is also in talks with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

I don't think that general has any say and obviously other generals disagreed with his comment. As for how good or bad the T-90 is, well in Syria older generation T-72 which are far inferior to T-90s are easily surviving RPG hits, some many times, Chechnya was the same story, the video's of T-72s from Syria are from modern anti tank weapons. On the other hand a modern Al-Khalid was taken out by supposedly 2 RPG's one hit the frontal part of the turret which is considered one of the best protected areas of a tank. So i would not disrespect the T-90 especially seeing what is really under the Al-Khalids outer turret.

modern Alkhalid taken out by RPG?? When did that happen?? Mate, the tank in that pic was Alzarrar, the type-59 upgrade and had taken SEVEN RPGS and two IED devices from multiple directions. The whole story is available on the internet with pictures and on this very forum. alkhalid was never pitted in that region since it is more focused in the desert along with the t-80UDs

Hello kid that was AL ZARRAR and two RPG didn't took it out it was a suicide attack folllowed by 10 RPG hitting Al ZARRAR than it was Grenades still all the guys in Tank survived

This was according to another Pakistani member a few pages back, and there is clearly a hole in the turret and i'm not talking about the outer turret panel that came off.

The RPG statement was according to another Pakistani member, as for suicide attacks, suicide attacks won't do jack to a tank unless they strap themselves with mortars and come right up against the tank. Case in point, we can clearly see the armor is a gimmick, and the frontal turret, the most armored part of a tank has a hole in it. Even old Syrian T-72's have survived multiple RPG hits, with most T-72 being destroyed by modern anti tank weapons. Funny how i keep hearing how poor the T-90s armor is and how great the Al-Khalid/Al Zarrar is but in reality it is less then impressive. But do not get mad at me, it is Pakistani members that are on the attack, i was even told to open this thread by the OP.

Wrong news it was AL ZARRAR which faced a massive attack still Tank remained in tact

But Dazzler the tank expert already said it was indeed an Al-Khalid. I also don't see much of anything intact the tank looks like it burned, and has obvious damage.

Patience is a virtue mate, i was digging the report :)

actually the tank and the crew survived to fight another day. The Aljazeera network even conducted their interview available on youtube. The chipped frontal panel was later torn off to remove the armour, let me find the pics for you..In fact, the Chinese were so impressed, they visited next month and witnessed the destroyed tank first hand. neither the turret blew off nor the crew was injured. A testament that the upgrade worked pretty much up to expectations. :)

see the left right side turret front panel intact with no loss of the armour even after the attack..

The report on the attack, rather an ambush, the largest single such case to date in pakistan !

It was part of small force at the front to make first contact with the militants along with force of around 35 personals of Pakistani army. It was ambushed from three sides of the mountainous road and has to face at least six suicide attack attempts within span of 15 minutes along with attacks through improvised explosive devices that were buried in their way. Crew of the destroyed Al-Zarrar MBT survived without injuries and tank was recovered as neither turret of chassis of Al-Zarrar MBT was penetrated which also proved the recent upgrade was successful. Survival of the crew form the destroyed Al-Zarrar MBT is also going to be a major moral booster for the crew as they will have more confidence in the crew protection capability of the tank. According to the soldiers participating in this furious battle fought in first week of this recent attempt by the Pakistan army to clear out the areas from Taliban militants, they were attacked from three sides by different militant groups that have divided themselves into smaller groups of four to five.

First attack was through improvise explosive devices which resulted in destruction of the tanks and afterwards Taliban started firing at them, they say that it was very difficult for them to access the direction of the fire and strength of the enemy. Soldiers involved in this fight say that it took us some time to estimate their positions and after that we started counter attack by sending our troops to surround them. Taliban felt the heat and started second part of the attack to scatter and destroy the advance party of Pakistan army, they launched one of their front end weapon against this small advance party; suicide bombers. Because of the magnitude of this attack, one can easily describe it as the largest suicide attack in Pakistan if not the largest in the world, mounted against a small force in shuch a limited time.

This attack involved at least six different vehicles and three motor bikes filled with explosives and driven by suicide bombers within short span of time of only fifteen minutes. Pakistani soldiers first gave them warnings to stop as they thought these were civilian vehicles, but later on they recognized the threat in time and started firing at them, most of these vehicles were destroyed but due to high speed these did at front line vehicles of this small military force. According to the commanding officer of this advance force, they were very fortunate that none of their troop involved in this operation was killed and all thirty five of them were able to survive this attack.

There is no proof that it was hit by 10 RPG and 2 IEDs..... Wait for 2 hours they would post it was hit by 20 RPGs and a ATGM.

Its Al Zarrar not Al Khalid

Perhaps i'm wrong but those don't even look like the same tanks, unless Pakistani authorities decided to smash out the left headlight and bend the upper armor above the tracks and damage it even further on the turret. As for tank crews surviving, T-72 crews have also survived many RPG's penetrating the armor as long as no munitions cooked off.

lol, did you have my answers yet?

now this is funny, from where do you feel they are two different tanks? Compare them again, they are the same tank and the pics taken from the same footage man.

Well it started with 2 RPGs and 2 suicide bombers now it grew to 10. I think with 10 RPG hits there would be more proof of damage, even when an Abrams is hit with RPGs you can clearly see the damage. So far from that picture i see 1 hole in the turret.
