Pakistan has been fighting the WoT now for almost a decade, things have been heating up and now it finds itself in a full fledged brawl within its borders. The US is also stepping up its efforts in Afghanistan so one can conclude that the war there is no where near over.

In your opinion, how long do you think it will take for the war to be over. When will the Taliban be crushed, specifically, how long before the Taliban and their friends are eliminated from Pakistan?

Victory will not be quick in my opinion, it seems like they're only just getting started, I think the war in Pakistan will carry on for at least another 5-6 years, the fate of Afghanistan is intertwined with the success or failure of Pakistan in its war so that too will last for a similar amount of time. 2014 at the earliest.

What do you think?

Straight up your statement , its not brawl (a bar hand to hand or bottle to bottle fight). Its armed confrontation, which i think your are not capable to understand, until it reach inside Indian border. Pakistan is fight this war just to save the Indians too. Because Pakistan knows, India wouldn't stand if this fight cross the Pak border and entered Indian border. Just pray this war finish early as possible. Still light at the end of tunnel.
People blame Musharraf about this whole stand off and taking part in WOT, even if its Mushi mistaken to part of war on terror, but i think it was favorable mistake for the Pakistan and rest of world. If war on terror wouldn't started then it would be impossible to analyze how much Pakistani society and tribal area has been polluted because of extremism.re
End is soon. P A stretch thin, but doing good job.

^^ my bad, I didn't mean to trivialize Pakistan's predicament, I understand the seriousness of the situation, I was just using it as a figure of speech if you will.

But lets not get confused and deviate from the question, Pakistan is NOT fighting this war to 'save' India. Its doing to save itself.

getting back though, how soon do you think, what steps will have to be taken to completely eradicate the Taliban and how far has Pakistan progressed in doing so.

This war can alter the course of history in the sub continent. I'll get into it as the discussion picks up.

Not near sooner, unless US and NATO realize the main cause of increasing power of Taliban (i am sure they know it). US has killed 10000s of people in afghanistan, 10s of taliban commanders but yet problem is still increasing. So fight will not end this!! neither US can crush Taliban, since Taliban is ideology. And you can dig the history, when ever there is ideology vs power then power always losses in the end.

^^ Ok, so how long do you think before life returns to 'normal'? When will the fighting stop? months? years? decades?

How can I give you timeline? I didn't invade Afghanistan, i am not in Afghanistan, and keen to just fight fight and destroy. Peace required some confidence from both sides, since this war is now pushing towards "war with afghan pathans" and if that happened, then there will not be any stopping until US reaches to same end as USSR.

If you need timeline, then i saw USA is looking towards negotiation till Oct, and this time Taliban also shown some flexibility on it. so i would say if they are success then who knows by the end of this yr everything get finished, or who knows it remain same as forever.
