A number of members especially the senior members are studying and/or working in foreign countries. I wonder if all of us who are abroad could volunteer ourselves to give career advice to our young Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Indian members. I myself went through lots of problems from choosing a career to finding a job abroad to immigration issues.

It is true that we can’t really help our countrymen directly, but at least we can share our own experiences to guide our younger generation.

Go ahead post your question. I'll tell you what I know; I hope other members will also contribute. When we interview our prospective Medical/MPH/PhD candidates, we ask few basic questions about their age, their academic background, about their inspirations and most importantly, how much they can afford to pay. We need to know about their financial soundness so if he/she is a good candidate, we start looking for financial support from the beginning. We also ask several other questions about their family background, their responsibilities (are they supporting their family partly or fully) and a tentative time scale (where they want to see themselves in next 4-5 years from now).

My background is Biomedical Sciences, so this is the area I can help you most. Hopefully other senior members will come forward and share their areas of expertise as well.

So please include the following information:

Age:
Academic Background:
Inspirations:
Financial soundness:
Marital status:
Intentions for settling abroad:

Msc Marketing? Are you sure this is the right course for you? Why did you chose marketing?

The younger generation also needs to stay at home and serve in the military. Army life is great after all... The cream of our society has been leaking out of our country; while they are still obviously great assets and benefit Pakistan financially and socially...nevertheless the Army also needs this cream to be at its very best. While the PA’s quality officer shortage is not as acute as in many other countries such as India; the situation is far from ideal. The NCO corps of Pakistan though are probably some of the finest in the world.

The Cream of our society...

You know Kaskrin, I once talked about this issue, I called it "Pakistan's Brain Drain".

Many of Pakistan's best Doctors, Scientist, Engineers, Teachers/Professors, and people of capacity have left Pakistan and have settled down in the West, primarily US and UK and other Western countries. This truly hurts Pakistan's future and reduces the nation's potential of greatness.

Now I understand why many leave Pakistan. However, if we ever seek a powerful nation we must understand it will materialize only form the fruits of our labor, not through the Britton Woods Institution, not through borrowing criminal loans form the IMF & World Bank w/ extremely high interest rates.

I urge Pakistanis, if you are in the West, you ought to finish your study at a University/College, make money, and once you have become a professional in your field, return to Pakistan so that the Nation may live and prosper.

Pakistan indeed has one of the finest intelligentsia in the World, and we should do everything to protect it and nurture it. This means we create a suitable environment in our country to allow development in all fields to take place.

lol...You didn't invent the term, mate!

Brain Drain is what it has been called ever since I can remember.

Yes I know I did not invent the term...Brain Drain is a recognized term and has been around for decades. My point is, that is the TERM I used to REFER to Pakistan's situation!

This does not mean I invented it, nor did I claim to.

Good Morning! Wake up and smell the coffee! :coffee:

Even though Dark, I did not specialize in Marketing, but begs me to ask a question, What wrong with Marketing?

It's the way you spoke with such authority of your earlier analysis, which elicited my response.

Thanks for trying to wake me up, but I must confess to you that I was not dozing off at all. I guess I'm not used to such enthusiastic referral to one's own work.

Msc Marketing? Are you sure this is the right course for you? Why did you chose marketing?

Well I had the option for Human Resource Management, International Business and Management and Marketing.

I chose Marketing coz It has to do alot with my dad's current business....and somehow I feel that I'll have to join it at some stage...Besides my major in BBA was also Marketing...

But whats wrong with Marketing?:what: I have heard its very popular among the employers in UK.

I have friends back home who talk about getting out of Pakistan.

Life is hard for an average person, unless you are well connected and rich.

To be blunt, there is no quality of life, therefore no motive to head back.

Your quality of life at the end of the day depends on you. If you can't do well here in terms of social circle/ money/ security then it is unlikely you will have much of a life in Canada, etc...
