Nehru-Edwina affair responsible for Partition’

Mumbai:

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has claimed that the “love affair between Jawaharlal Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten” was responsible for compromising on the sovereignity of the country.

In an interview to Sena mouthpiece Saamna published on Monday, he claimed that the partition happened because of the ‘love affair’.

Thackeray said, “It was Nehru’s pagalpan (madness). He was having a love affair with Edwina that led to the country’s downfall. Lord Mountbatten took advantage of this. I had a film on this. England later banned the film as that country feared loss of face. Their decision to ban the film was patriotic.”

Thackeray added that the late film maker Manmohan Desai had given him a cassette of the film.

I thought Indians vehemently refused to accept this version of events as quoted by most Pakistani sources. Apparently Liaqat Ali Khan even got a few incriminating letters but he never used them, on strict instructions of Jinnah, they would've destroyed Nehru.

Not only did he have an affair with Edwina, but even Lord Mountbaten himself. They were a threesome. Edwina pressurized Fatima Jinnah to convince Quaid-e-Azam, to make some concessions.

However Nehru was not the one who chickened out and let Pakistan form, it were the Hindu extremists who saw the large Muslim presence a counter balance to their dominance. The first Budget that Liaqat Ali Khan had made also destroyed the Hindu businesses. The Hindus knew they had to get rid of the troublemaker Muslims and then started pressuring Nehru and Gandhi to let it happen.

If it were up to Nehru, he would've fought longer.

HAHAHA! Thats about the most hillarious political thing I have ever heard. So if you want to divide US, start flirting with Hillary Clinton.

Who cares to listen to Thackery anyway, hes just a bucnh of crap. He's become a popular cartoon because his remark about North Indians.

He wasn't flirting with her, he was sleeping with her... And he was sleeping with Lord Mountbatten.

now how can you prove that?
it's plain crazy...a threesome?
i'v heard of their affair...but threesome...was it like a casting couch for the post of the pm(jinnah might have had his inhibitions so he lost on the post)?

Yes i too have heard stories of their alleged love affair. But linking it with the reason for partition is like going strecthing it too far..!!!!

Lord Mountbatten was known in the British Military as Lord Mountbottom for that.

Google it, you'll find a lot of references to it. Obviously no solid proof, you won't find any money shots, but its generally accepted as a strong possibility. They were Bi.

asim...out of all the theories and stories...why do you always end'p believing the most bewildering one?
we cant prove $hit. Lets give some respect for the souls of those departed...especially people like nehru. The more sensible story is that jinnah wanted to safeguard the interests of the indian muslims...and nehru and co. were eager to win the freedom so the partition happened. Nehru was an impeccable leader...i dont wanna imagine him getting physical the white masters of india in black and white.

Partition of India has 2 reasons. 1) Both Jinnah and Nehru were eager to become prime minster. As Nehru was more closer to Mahatma Gandhi, he was more preferred candidate for PM post. Jinnah wasn't very happy with that. Nehru thought Gandhi may incline towards Jinnah if this matter comes up. Both Nehru and Jinnah wanted to be the first prime minister:angry:. 2) The Hindu-Muslim riots which took place specially in Kalkatta and Hydrabad. Britishers alwasys very well divided the Indian society.

Ironically both Hindus and Muslims shed their blood for the independence of India cut their land in parts only because their leaders wanted to become PRIME MINISTERS.:hitwall:

:) Thakray is trying to twist the facts. The affair did not lead to Partition but this affair had led to wrong partition.

Nehru succeeded in using Edwina to to get concession for India and that was the cause for inclusion of many Muslim majority areas into India by Mountbaten.

@Indian members: Nehru-Edwina affair is recorded in the history books. its not some new finding.

There was no such affair, this is a slander upon Lady Mountbatten - who may have slept with a number of men, but not the fair, young and handsome jawaharlaal nehru.

It is nothing but bollywood style fantasy, which seems to have infected some self flaggelating Brits whose research upon this matter consists of mere gossip and innuendo.

The Mountbatten family has steadfastly denied this, as have the only two people (outside the families) who have had access to her private correspondance, Philip Ziegler and Janet Morgan.

This is another BS story that Bhartis have perpetuated, and has gained a life of its own. Complete, and utter Tosh.

Just imagine a love affair and illicit relationship between Kautilya and Madonna... Its hilarious man to see such a love story...

Well Nehru Edwina extra marital adult affair is not now a chhupa chhupi love story, we all know that... the fact is that it led to a serious political development...

I thought Jinnah was the creator of Pakistan.

Embarrassing man!!! What did the Bharatis construct this BS story to defame their own "fair, young and handsome jawaharlaal nehru" for?

On which side you are my friend, I still try to understand.
