The the same derailed train fell off to another track and was hit by another train that came minutes later.

So most of deaths was caused in over crowed cheapest general bogey used by migrant labours going from engal to Chennai increasing the death toll substantially.


Any body travelling in Indian trains would say Indian railway infrastructure has improved vastly last 10 year not withstanding what happened yesterday due to human error and plain unluck that another train came minutes after one train was derailed and bogies spilling over to other track.
Infrastructure improvement you mean more KFC in the stations?
There are records number of vacancies all round railways ranging from linesman, signaling staff and even loco pilots.

My bad I posted it before knowing much, with or without kavach the accident was inevitable. As it would be ineffective against derailment.
 
Kavach goes beyond Manual Signalling, Block Signalling and Automatic Signalling, and their combination with Electronic Interlocking. Kavach determines precisely where each locomotive is, based on RFID cards embedded in the rolling stock, and read by RFID readers in the track or along the track. This is supposed to monitor each individual train and its location, and to take action remotely to slow down, or even halt, trains in dangerous proximity.

Kavach had not been installed on this vital trunk line between Calcutta/Howrah and Madras, a trunk route that millions have used; I was myself a regular user during my Madras years, for myself and wife and child, and it was the best way of travel between the two locations.

What happened was shocking.

There were three trains involved, two of them fast express trains, the Coromandel, going north south, and the Yeshvantpur-Shalimar, going south to north. Normally, the goods train should have been parked on the loop line, and the two fast trains sent straight through, on their respective through lines of track.

Instead, the Coromandel was put on the through line, correctly, AND THEN, AT THE LAST MOMENT, SHIFTED TO THE LOOP LINE. There, it hit the goods train, derailed, and fell into the path of the onrushing Yesh-Shal express.

Besides the initial heavy casualties when the Coromandel hit the stationary goods train, there were further heavy casualties when the Yesh-Shal ran into the derailed wreckage.

Those defending the Railways are saying that this was purely human error; the Coromandel should never have been shunted onto the loop line.

Those unhappy with the Railways are saying that this was precisely what was to be expected if funds and management attention were to be diverted to fast trophy trains like Vande Bharat, rather than to implementing Kavach on all lines. If Kavach had been in place, the moment the Coromandel entered the loop line, the presence of the goods train in its path would have been sensed, and the Coromandel first slowed, then, if needed, halted. The accident would not have happened.

I doubt, if this incident can be averted if the Howrah-Chennai line kavach. As of now its effective in head to head collision which is not the case here.

Indian govt is not spending on safety. Kavach was first implemented in 2012. There were many issues found. Its over a decade now. Still these loopholes are not sealed and proper features not introduced. There is not enough focus and budget in this area. Only in 2022 the focus was in place and grants came and balls started rolling.

Bigger point railways has too many vacancies . This includes linesman, signaling staff and loco pilot. railway just increasing operating margin by reducing people in right places.

Bande bharat are being introduced in every state and PM himself is inaugurating them. Never before i have seen PM doing such a pity stuff.
I cant find what so special about bande bhart. Its satabdi with a different name.
For example NJP Bande bharat has an average steed of 83 km /hr, whereas satabdi has an average speed of 77 km/hr saving 30 min. fare almost 30% higher with same amenities.
As the infrastructure is not in proper shape bande bharat can't run on it full potential.
Need of hour a better infra withstanding higher speed.
Finally if bande bharat can be of Modi then why this railway accident will not be with him.

To me our present Railway Minister is the best minister in the cabinet now. His effort has again took the kavach on focus in 2022 which was in deathbed for funding. Kavach needs a dedicated research team with heavy funding than an quarter high speedy train.

Electronic Signally system is foolproof. Govt believes there was manual changes/sabotage were made causing this accident, so a simultaneous crime probe by India's CBI was also ordered.

FYI, some 30 million Indians travel by Indian railway everyday on its 13000 locomotives.

All networks have electronic safeguards and some 30% of the line have computerized safegourds called 'Kavach' touted as the best of its class, kavach wasn't installed on that accident line but would be installed this year itself.

Now listen up, the accident happened because of manual changes were made to electronic signaling that led to derailment of the train which was travelling 130Km per hour and it hit a goods trains standing on nearby track, the third train was passing by at the exact same tim
e when the derailment of first train took place and the rear coaches of the third train collided with derailed bogies of first train.

My understanding is the third train was passing on the next line when the second train derailed. The last few cars were hit by the derailed train.
