ABP India Summit 2023: Javed Akhtar Saw "No Visible Poverty" in Lahore, Pakistan

Things are even better than I thought then! You guys should be praising the army for DHAs that make Lahore look like a first world city, relatively free of poverty.
Criticisms aside, the military does deserve credit for some of the things that it has done through DHA. The problem is that this kind of development is not inclusive. One thing that hides poverty in Lahore is that in places like DHA is the fact that it is illegal to beg in these areas. Lahore needs more social programs and vocational training centres for the poor. But yes a very significant portion of Lahore does look very developed.

I instantly lol'ed at this part
First of all who th anywhere in the world gives their millitary credit for building frickin housing society?

You know utterly bizzare that sounds? it's SO WEIRD

B- there's a shit load of private societies in cities throughout the country so it's not exactly something that only they do and it's exclusively thiers -. We criticize em cause it's not their job to get involved in this crap and has or will turn them into Egyptian millitary

Pretty nice areas to live, to be sure. And secure in terms of buying and selling transactions and secure ownership, which is a HUGE thing in a country known for widespread frauds of all kinds.

Wealth inequality is less acute in Pakistan and the concept of charity and taking care of less fortunate is a religious duty, hence no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach and almost no one is without shelter. The same cannot be said of shining India.

DHA is the sole reason for the concept of private societies becoming mainstream in Pakistan. Any Pakistani who likes the idea of a private housing society must give DHA credit for it. I am against the idea of DHA and other private housing societies due to their lack of inclusivity.

Very true as our country is full of kabza groups.

There's no damn place left in main city of Lahore for kind of slums which are shown in Mumbai/Delhi but there still are poverty stricken areas. It's not everyone have become rich but land mafia (with Fauji Incorporation leading it) have either swallowed most of poorer areas or have built walls around them. So, his opinion that he haven't seen visible poverty in Lahore isn't a lie.

That is very beautiful. Military leaders wrongly get accused of transferring all the money to foreign banks and investments. They seem to have invested quite a bit in building beautiful townships.

The problem with an entity like the military doing business is that it diminishes the freeness of the market resulting in a decrease in innovation which is horrible for the economy.

A lot of the areas where the private housing societies have been built used to be villages. These villagers became rich af when their land was bought; however, a lot of these clowns wasted and continue to waste their money on depreciating assets like luxury cars.

What???

Does he walk slum roads when visit to other countries?

Or get the fantastic rides by AC cars, while attending the parties and programs?
The segregation of rich and poor is much more nuanced in Pakistan than in India. Unlike Indian cities where the rich have built themselves around the general population - monetary class divisions are much more enforced and regulated in Pakistan. Hence, Javed A isn’t wrong about not seeing poverty because class colonies are established separately and outside of the city centers and otherwise.

You will more likely than not stumble across poor engaging in street defecation in India but wont in Pakistan due to both facilities available but also somewhat stringent “cleanups” of areas by local LE and hired security.

Like the US?

Pretty similar - its like touring Chicago loop and finding things mostly clean and neat unless you go to particular neighborhoods. I like it to a New York vs Chicago deal - NY looks fancy and glitter but actually stinks like F.. while Chicago is actually pretty clean overall but that’s because all the stuff is neatly hidden away.

Who are those in Pak invite people like Javed Akhter to Pak. Has anyone seen this ABP video in which this scum claims Pak is one of the blunders a man made in history.

You also have far older bonds of inequality in Pakistan...like feudal relationships, tribal fealty, and so on. It's stratified and obvious when you compare provinces, cities, rural areas, and then rural areas to cities, and so on. I also think the inequalities that led to the poverty had always existed (pre-1947), but grew as Pakistan's population grew.

Whereas in India, poverty seems to be based on more modern factors, like land reform (that didn't properly equip small farmers to succeed), massive urban development, and migrant workers. It's not stratified nor based on traditional inequalities as Pakistani poverty is.

Yup. Lived 12 years in Naperville, IL. Never once went to the south side.
