China confirms orders for 140 Airbus jets worth $17 bln

Question: what happened to the domestic planes like the C919? I thought China was looking to replace all new foreign orders with Chinese solutions.
Isn't it so obvious? C919 will enter service in December and and it'll take some time for it to replace foreign planes, China , as the world biggest aviation market, needs one than one providers, how many C 919 China can produce every year and how many China needs every year? why you can 't see this common sense?

China doomers and haters are just playing dumb sometimes.

I don't think they will swtich up parts for C919, any major swap would most definitely involve recertification. And that would have been a very lengthy issue.

Maybe C929 or subsequent model will get more local parts in after the Chinese "Master" those technology. But I don't think C919 will have any major change, maybe for domestic uses, not international use.

You don't fly A320 from China to EU, they only have around 6500km range.....Unless you have hubs in the middle east you can do stop over....

If you buy A320, that most likely ended up domestic use.
That’s fair. No need to scare the western suppliers. The C-929 is probably a better platform to focus on for domestic components.

The domestic C-919 engine are expected to match current western engines and be ready for addition to the C-919 by the end of the decade. Perhaps all the sub-components will be tested in isolation on the C-919 and be put on the C-929.

This is the end of Boeing in the Chinese market. Airbus has won. Airbus is a safer aircraft than Boeing.

American aviation companies participation in the Chinese market will be for components for the C919 until Chinese components eventually replace them.

French, German, Spain
Well, it's like Boeing having investment from Canadian government, that does not make it a Canadian company lol. So does Airbus after Airbus acquired Bombardier...

Well, they will most definitely use C919 as a testbed for Chinese Tech on subsequent Chinese Aviation.

The problem is, unlike Military Aviation, there are quite a few different factors other than the ability to make engine or avionics that counts. Most Civ Air look for parts commonality, easy to maintain and cheap per flight hours, that is going to take a while to master and then a longer while to be able to make it as completable as western tech (Say what you want with Boeing Max, they are cheap to fly, which mean a lot of airlines are going to overlook the safety issue and buy them) on the other hand, Chinese Airline and its parts don't have any reputation, which mean they can't really bounce back if there are any accident occurred. I mean right now, if C919 gets into any kind of accident and suffer hull loss or even life loss, Chinese can blame it on western parts because it is using western part. But if they started to change to domestic parts and it got problem, that will kill the entire Chinese aviation industry before it can start, which mean China are going to take times to take that risk.

They have to spend all those trillions and billions they have somewhere ...Boeing being partly dysfunctional and American , for now Airbus it is. Always good to be a buyer .
yeah. But not better than buying ONE Rafale fighter jet for $200 million.

Neither is the A320, the bulk of the order.

Or may be China knows its own products are second-rate by comparison?
If C919 is a second-class product. We can think that countries without space stations are all second-class countries.

Of course, in US slaves' eyes, China also has second class HSR, second class subways, second class airports, second class space station, second class Moon and Mars rovers...

Both can be true. Either way, Chinese domestic manufacturers will try to catch, and until they do it’s still big business for western suppliers.

so C919 and ARJ21 not good enough for Chinese market ?

As I said in post #22, American aviation participation in the Chinese market will be as parts suppliers for the C919. Even among the parts it is engine and avionics mostly. As China developed the Y-20 strategic transport aircraft, China has rapidly developed the aircraft parts industry for large aircraft.

1. Flight testing is not completed.

2. COMAC will not have enough production capacity to fulfill domestic market for at least 2 decades. Airbus is definitely needed. Boeing is a maybe at this point.

3. Even if China fills its market with C919, parts will still be needed from suppliers in Europe and North America.
