(Reuters) – The United Arab Emirates plans to order 12 L-15 light attack planes from China, with the option of purchasing 36 more, the UAE state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday.

The purchase is part of the oil-rich Gulf state’s efforts to diversify weapon suppliers, it said, citing a defence ministry statement.

The UAE air force operates mainly American-made F-16 and French-made Mirage fighters. It ordered Rafale jets from France last year.

Very likely Royal Malaysia Air Force may pick these L-15 for their LIFT program too.

Nope. Hongdu quit the tender because the Malaysians want to pay in palm oil. Only LCA, MiG-35, and Hurjet are still in the tender.

UAE has a population of around 1 Million.
How many weapons do they need?

Belgium or Portugal are non existence minnows in Europe, and they have a population of 10 million.

The UAE needs to look after their people, make peace and stop pretending like they are a giant.

I have a feeling Pakistan will likely pick these as well.

I dont think China reject such barter trade. In fact, barter trade is always what China prefer especially China needs oil palm.

Bro I'm not sure if the link is credible. Seems like PAC (JF-17) and Boeing (T-7A) have backed out due to palm oil payment terms, and Czech Aero Vodochy (L39NH) backed out due to supersonic requirement. Six bids were submitted for the Malaysia LCA/FLIT tender:
  1. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) partnering with local company Kemalak Systems Sdn Bhd to offer the FA-50
  2. Turkey Aerospace Industries, offering Hürjet
  3. China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corp (CATIC), with its L-15
  4. Italy’s Leonardo, with its M-346
  5. India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, with its Tejas
  6. Aerospace Technology Systems Corp Sdn Bhd (71.43%-controlled by Tan Sri Ahmad Johan’s National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd (Nadi), 23% by a company called Russian Aircraft and 4.76% by another Russian outfit Rosoboronexport) offering Mig-35

The UAE is a highly developed country with hundreds of billions (already in the low trillions) of $$ spent on strategic infrastructure projects that put countries in the region with huge populations to shame.

doesn't matter if we have 1 living in the UAE or 1 million, we need to protects people AND assets (even if this means the UAE has to step on the toes of old bullies to insure peace). Why do people around here get their undies in a knot when the UAE decides to purchase planes or weapons is beyond me, the UAE can afford it AND it takes care of their people better than any country out there ....

Looks like you are getting your rations on time.

Are you telling me you are better then Belgium?
Are you feeling OK?

You used oil money to put up few buildings in the desert by employing foreigners, that's nothing to brag about. I feel happy for you guys, but your ego is sickening. UAE is a tiny little nation, that should be busy spreading peace, rather then acting arrogant. Just pitiful.

TBF, UAE exists in a region that is way less stable than where Belgium and portugal is. and that region is being eyed by great powers, buying weapons from them is also a good way to make nice with great powers

One potential problem is with Ukraine chocking the engine supply given how tense the situation is between Russia, a China ally, and Ukraine. So far they've delivered 200 engines. Will the substitute in case delivery is stopped?

What's TBF?

Actually I really like he UAE, they have done well in utilising their natural resources to create an economy for the future. That's very impressive.

But that aside, Oman is in the same region, they seem to live peacefully, there are others in the region with big ego, including the UAE, and there is no price for an ego. One can make excuses and create imagined enemies, but it doesn't make it true.

TBF (To be fair)

oman is way poorer than UAE though
and it actually has very high military spending for its size, at over 10% of GDP, its just the total still comes out small-ish because their total GDP isnt really that huge.

Point taken, but if you look at both countries, Oman has a peaceful approach and they don't go about antagonising others in the region. There is a clear difference in approach.

If anyone wanted to invade the UAE, they would have done it in the 70's and the 80's, all the scare mongering is just hot air, without any basis.

the UAE doesn't have to go through a full blown war or invasion to start buying weapons and planes. Chess moves are being made in the region NOT in the best interest of the UAE. UAE takes action. full stop. if it irritates people that a small country is making moves then they should stop being ancient dinosaur bullies and join the UAE in development and peace.

and you have no idea how good Emiratis have it in the UAE. Al hamdulelah always and forever.

What wise words have you give me? acting like a king without cloths, don't act the fool and congratulate yourself, for what? Nothing.

You need to look in the mirror, you are an arrogant and a rude person.
Now a hypocrite, read your words again, stop being a baby and grow up.

You are the one trolling me, I have never replied to you, but you keep replying to me, and then go off running like a spoilt brat asking for protection because you don't have the guts, nor the capacity take care of yourself.
Grow the heck up.
