KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) which is set to be sworn in next week will spend $2 billion on converting traditional government systems into e-government to enable transparency, development and efficiency.

As per PTI’s digital policy, it will be focusing on private-public partnership in the country’s information technology sector which can create 1 million additional jobs, reported Express Tribune.

Yusuf Hussain CEO Ignite said several countries had been able to save billions of dollars via e-government and appreciated this decision.

The incoming government in its manifesto said it intends to create 10 million jobs over the course of next five years.

From these jobs, 1 million will be created in the IT sector via youth training and a special focus on exports.

PTI intends to allot $2 billion for citizen services, digital infrastructure and various e-government initiatives over the next five years.

Also, the incoming government conceives expanding the tax net with the bringing in of automation in government services which is anticipated to keep a check on corruption and helping enable efficiency in services for citizens.

Also, the incoming government isn’t racing to compete with the private sector but intends to cooperate with it.

The PTI as per its policy draft recommended the establishment of Knowledge Economy Authority which will possess powers across all government departments to be helmed by a chief information officer from the private sector.

E-governance will not only result in millions of jobs but also reduce the corruption to a minimum and very efficient society more like EU.

Excellent, the more things get digital the lesser the margin for corruption and kickbacks. That is the easiest and most robust method of getting rid of corruption. Major public dealing offices like Police, Courts, Hospitals, NADRA, Utility bills , Pensions etc should all be managed through E Commerce.

patwari will be sitting on his ***

Looks like a great initiative but with Pakistan's large uneducated population it will be challenge to gradually force people to use technology.

However filing for taxes
Doing basic licence renewals
Doing parking ticket payments

Would become drastically easy

At provincial Level , the biggest lost for government is lack of Metro Transit system to collect 4-5 Million Dollar daily from people travelling on Government Assets (Bus, Train, Subway)

Pakistan has a large population 200 Million

Lets say if 15 Cities were correctly implemented with Transit system and each city generated 5 Million per day revenue from transit

15 (Cities had world class metro system) x 5 Million Dollar per day from 1 city x 365 days = 27 Billion Dollars

This much can be generated from just people travelling to work daily

Instead in Pakistan what is happening is Motor Bike culture and Petrol culture are moving money out of Pakistan on daily basis which is why we import large quantities of oil

If Pakistan can move it's daily transport habits to use Bus/Train more often tremendous amount of money can be saved
