Bangladesh Air Force Thread(2010-2011)

As this thread is for discussing upon BAF....i would like ask for some opinions....

BAF operates a handful attack version of the MI-helicopters....apart from that we have not seen any different attack helos in service among any of the three branches....PLA developed an attack helicopter WZ-10, its mainly for ground operation (anti-tank) but does have secondary air-to-air capability....

China being our largest arms supplier, dont you thing Bangladesh should take a look at these helos....given that we lack attack helos in quantity....

Any opinions....???

Cheers!!!
I wish they do :)

China and Pakistan Push Chengdu JF-17 Fighter for Export

In the same week that the Chengdu JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft made its international debut at the Farnborough airshow, the product of this co-development between China and Pakistan was offered to Indonesia. The Pakistan Defence Minister signed a defense cooperation agreement with his Indonesian counterpart in Jakarta. The list of countries that the Sino-Pakistan joint venture is targeting for sales is expanding fast: it reportedly also includes Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Congo, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkey, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.

At Farnborough, joint-venture partners Catic and PAC described the JF-17 as a multi-role light fighter with an “outstanding performance-to-cost ratio.” The two aircraft on display were ferried to Farnborough but did not fly during the show, and officials were reluctant to allow journalists into the cockpit to view the three multifunction displays plus head-up display, HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) and other avionics. The aircraft were shown with PL-5II IR-guided air-to-air missiles on wingtip rails and ferry tanks on the centerline and inner wing stations, leaving the outer wing stations unloaded. Mockups of five Chinese stores were displayed next to the aircraft: a C802A anti-ship missile; an SD-10A active radar-guided air-to-air missile; an LS-6 glide bomb; a WMD-7 targeting pod; and a KG300G electronic warfare pod.

Program officials said that a development JF-17 is now flying in China with a Chinese-developed engine, presumably the WS-13 Taishan. All other JF-17s are powered by the Russian-supplied RD-93 turbofan. On the eve of Farnborough, a Russian newspaper reported the opposition of Sukhoi and MiG director-general Mikhail Pogosian to a further sale of RD-93s to China because the JF-17 is competing with the MiG-29 for export sales. At the show, however, Russian officials, including Pogosian, played down this concern.

In about a decade the Bangladeshi GDP should be same as Pakistan. Of course it helps that they don't spend much money on defense.

Its not a good idea to go with JF-17 as long as PLAF does not intake it in service extensively. I heard PLAF did not like it much.... :undecided:

..and Pakistan GDP will not remain static in the meantime.

^^^^
We should get some JF-17. It's cheaper and will get assistant in future to develop our own from Pakistan/China.

iajdani Its not a good idea to go with JF-17 as long as PLAF does not intake it in service extensively. I heard PLAF did not like it much....

I am wondering do you think nations procure defense equipment on the basis if others are buying it or not. Remember F-111 the only operators ex-usaf/raaf, another example F-14 uaaf/iranian air force.
BAF can barely spend on mig-29s and their maintenance, how is it that you'll cope with F-18s/su-30/ef-2000/rafale/gripen.

You heard wrong, PLAAF will induct 250 FC-1s mk2/blk2 replacing A-5/J-7 variants and the number could go up. Next thing why are you worried PLAAF if won't take it BAF won't take it either. Compare BAF F-7BG to JFTs and decide, PAF will induct 250 and perhaps additional 2 more squadrons, other nations are also interested with egypt to be third in line for a large order around 120-150
Alone PAF, PLAAF and egyptian air force makes 600-650 JFTs.

If BAF's relations with france is good you could hit a jackpot with french radar and avionics and weapons systems.
