Afghanistan's territory is divided between belligerent forces (Taliban and Central govt). It is not in a suitable position for self governance. The regional and extra regional powers need to implement a mandate system similar to Post WWI settlement. Tajikistan should manage Tajik areas of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan should manage Uzbek areas, Iran should manage region around Herat (traditionally under influence of Safavid dynasty) and Pakistan, Russia, China should manage Eastern and Southern Afghanistan (Kabul and Kandahar were more affiliated with Mughal spheres of influence). Russia and China and Afghan Taliban should be involved to counter the threat of Daesh from Southern and Eastern Afghanistan. As in the words of Zamir Kabulov , Russia ambassador to Kabul that Taliban are a force to be reckoned with and that their and Russian interests coincided to defeat IS. The Kabul regime should be given the mandate to govern Kabul, unstable elements such as Vice President Dostum (a former warlord, responsible recently for sexually assaulting a male govt official) should be dispensed with. This way a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan will ensure regional peace.

The former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said the so-called Durand Line will never be recognised as official border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Speaking during an event in Kabul, Karzai said the line has remained a controversial issue between the two nations for many years, imposed by outsiders.

Karzai further that Afghanistan’s reluctance to recognise as formal line will never mean enmity with Pakistan, insisting that the residents located along the line should decide regarding it and not the nations.

This is not the first time the former Afghan President has spoken against the controversial line.

“When Pakistan came into being in 1947, they received it this way, so we are not blaming them but Durand Line is a blow which no Afghan can ever forget. We do not accept this border but will not fight over this issue,” Karzai said during an interview in June.

Earlier Karzai said the Pakistani leadership wanted recognition of Durand Line during his tenure in a bid to improve ties between the two nations.

The porous Durand Line has also been a source of tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan where numeous cross-border attacks have been carried out during months and years.

Militants and terrorist groups are actively operating along the Durand Line and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

China has security concerns wrt IS & engaging directly with Taliban for investment in areas which Afghan Taliban control

Kandahar was under the rule of Shah of Persia until 1650

I believe it was contested between Mughals & Safavids over time

Any news on strenthening the Kasadar and Levies force? How far has Pakistan got in securing the border with AFG?

Why does Pakistan never protest this controversial statements with Afghanistan and force them to accept. They don't want to fight because they cannot fight us at the moment but an enemy should never be taken lightly specially these Afghan snakes whom we have been feeding for decades.
