From my point of View the F16 IS A LETHEL war plane.

The block 60 wud habe been the perfect answer to SU30 MKI.#

EVEN 36 OF THEM wud have been a nitemare.

Block 52 ARE standard equipped F16s offering nothing that the SU30 MKI cant deal with especially with the highly advanced israeli jammers...

The rafael and Typhoon at $100 million each are simply too expensive.

The block 60 at $60m wud be a nice easy intergration project.

and the tech cud have been used on the JF17 in the future

I don't understand your question nor its relevence to the topic.
Please check "War in Terror" section for drone attacks and FATA related topics.
Thanks!

Maybe because we have difficulty feeding many of our people...

We're getting a lot of military hardware from USA free of charge under the EDA agreement as reward for the WoT. Those deals were struck by previous government and are on schedule.

Zardari and new defence ministers have no role in this, strategy for military purchases upto 2015 have already been worked out and the focus is on 18 new Block 52 F-16C/D + 32 +34 Block 15 and 40 MLU3's, JF-17, FC-20, J-11, Aewacs, IL-78's Tankers additional C-130 medium transport and possibly tankers and a new advance trainer, probably the Czeck L-169.

There's no room nor requirement for Block 60 Falcon.

j-11 for paf ???:what:

Block-60 was offered to PAF, but the fact that Block-52+ can eventually be upgraded with a new AESA, ECM/EW & avionics may have turned out be a cheaper option.

j11B production is a problem, the present rate of production can not meet the Chinese Air Force

The Rafael can be had for less than 70 million USD and isn't outside of Pakistan's grasp. It is the Eurofighter that is 110 million + .

SU30MKI does not have AESA but our SAAB 2000's do and will spot them 300 miles before they even take off.

What about maintenance issues for a two engined aircraft that probably still needs as much maintenance as a normal flanker. With Pakistan trying to economise surely more cost effective and less maintenance intensive aircraft would be better. J-10's seem to fit the bill and PAF is already getting a few so why not concentrate on these rather than J-11's?

PAF is familiar with both Block 52 and 60 (Turkey and UAE). They have evaluated their options and Block 52 won it in the end for obvious reasons. Cost-effective and as Mark rightly pointed out, upgradation possibilities.

PAF has never been fond of twin engine aircraft due to maintenance complexity and the cost factor. However, PAF will have to adapt in the coming decades. The Vanguards suffice for the time being. PAF needs an elite squadron of dedicated long range air superiority fighters that can provide an offensive punch. J-11B maybe out of the question due to export limitations, but J-14 should can fill that gap.

In the future when the current economic crises is over yes they may well want twin engined aircraft with greater capabilities but surely then better options than the J-11 would be available. The flanker airframe is great if showing its age in certain key areas but in the future it will be completely outdated, no matter how much you play with the avionics.

Modular materials used in airframe construction make it lighter and stronger (J11B). I don't see them going outdated before 2025, they are good ship hunters as well.
