The Quint: Terrorists or Rebels? Meet the Families of active Kashmiri Mujahideen

That guy does have a long beard to support my claim. His father claims that he left to fight for Islam.
I prefer humanism to nationalism. And I see a religious fighter as a threat to mankind.

Oppression is the incubator of terrorism. What made him (and others like him) to pick up arms against the state in the first place ?

Muslims (with or without beard) are not the children of a lesser god

You can't deny human rights to someone just because of one's faith/ideology

but its India which is making these people pickup guns
no, saudi wahhabi ideology is, else we'd have more islamic separatism in places like Kerela etc.

I haven't seen a single Indian here who is able to look beyond the shadows of Indian Nationalism and acknowledge the Kashmir Dispute for what it is; A Humanitarian Issue

A Humanitarian Issue?? An average Kashmiri on a normal day has more rights that an average Indian thanks to special status due to article 370 of Indian constitution. Name one right which has been denied to Kashmiri on an normal day. How do you think the world deals with violent religious nutjobs?

Says who ? An Indian blinded by Nationalism ?

You guys have denied them their very basic right; Right to Self Determination, promised to them by the UN and by India itself ...

How many armed struggle bought freedom?!?! :undecided: As long as these guys don't throw off their guns, they will never be considered as freedom fighters. As long as Pakistan support these guys, Pakistan will never have normalized relation with India or the world.

Talk about India only ... India is not the whole world

The UN has no internationally agreed definition of terrorism and the reason is that some organizations (OIC, Arab League etc.) define terrorism to exclude "armed struggle for liberation" and "self-determination". The member countries (of these organisations) won't accept any definition of terrorism which may declare Palestinian Freedom Fighters as Terrorists. This Dead Lock continues to this day and the UN has not adopted the convention on international terrorism.

So, as long as the UN does not "define" terrorism, the Kashmiri Freedom Fighters cannot be declared Terrorists ..... Their insurgency cannot be declared legitimate either (In case the UN chooses to define terrorism to exclude "armed struggle for liberation" and "self-determination") .....

As far as International Law is concerned, the Statute of the International Court of Justice does recognize the teachings of the most highly qualified publicists of the various nations as a valid source of International Law. This category may also include the work of organizations and private institutions. Opinions expressed by experts carry significant weight in International Law.

And here is what some experts on International Law have to say regarding the Kashmiri Freedom Fighters:

(The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is an international human rights non-governmental organization based in Geneva. The Commission itself is a standing group of 60 eminent jurists(including senior judges, attorneys and academics) dedicated to ensuring respect for international human rights standards through the law. Commissioners are known for their experience, knowledge and fundamental commitment to human rights.)

ICJ sent a fact finding mission to Kashmir in 1995. The final report published not only challenged the accession of Kashmir to India, it went on to say "If as the ICJ mission has concluded , the people of Kashmir have a right for self determination, it follows that their insurgency is legitimate " ... (p.84-98)

If they protested peacefully, I would have no objection.
A guy who picks up a gun and terrorises everyone (including pro government civilians ) isn't innocent.
Of course, there are nice people who sport beards. But most of them are from the older generation. I frequent a dargah almost every Thursday. It is mostly the "pious youngsters" there who keep talking about shirk, violence, stuff like that. ... the older ones are quite friendly.

That's a valid objection.

But have you ever objected to the excessive and unwarranted use of force in Kashmir by the Indian Troops ? Because that's what makes Kashmiris choose the path of violence ..

We all have prejudices and biases

Um the first rebellion against foreign raj in Kashmir started roughly in late 19th century
It predates Saudi and Pakistan

Yes an average Kashmiri is jubilant over the fact that even Eid prayer is a crime in IOK,100 days without access to communications,100 days of curfews, hundreds blinded,100 killed, thousand injured and arrested they just love their special status

we're talking about "Rebellion" 2.0 or 3.0 here, now they're waving isis flags.

why waste time on nuance anyway when the cultural dna strain is so obvious ? these guys are just the same as isis or syrian rebels or boko haram and al qaeda, radical islamic terrorists, and we're going to kill all of them just like your army kills the TTP (which I strongly support, that your army kills them)

a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone but fighting jihadis and national security comes first, the era of islamic conquest is over, they should grow a brain and not jihad, or, die by the sword, and the IA wields a mighty one.

Ok, then we will have to rise Phastun's Freedom Fighters, Baluchistan Freedom Fighters, Sindhi Freedom Fighters, GB freedom fighters.

Against whom? Themselves?

That's a valid objection.

We live in an imperfect world. And we have to pick sides based on our interests.
Peace requires dialogue between rational parties on all sides. That may take decades though.

Well for us our territorial sovereignty is supreme, bigger than our democracy or any right of anybody anywhere. All rights that a citizen has in the free world (forget about Islamic world) have been given to an average Kashmiri. Law of land is supreme if they want Sharia they can very well shift to Saudi. Also if you guys are such saints why don't you have a plebiscite in your part of Kashmir and 'so-called' free them and as you are on it have one in Baluchistan too.

You're talking about India. So I gave you a reply.

But you seems afraid to discuss about whats happening in your country. Then how about you discuss about our country ???????
Nothing happening here ch....ye Look at Kashmir thousands are on street every other day And yes few mountain's rats we taking them down. Long live Kashmiri Freedom fighters.
