The 107 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) 11 Gorkha Rifles is completing 50 years on 01 Oct 2010. The unit was raised on 01 October 1960 at Katapahar (Darjeeling). This unit has unique distinction of being the only Gorkha TA Battalion of the Indian Army and Gorkha Brigade and hence has aptly earned the sobriquet as ‘Gorkha Terriers’

The Gorkha Terriers will celebrate its 50th Raising Day on 01 and 02 October, 2010 at Darjeeling. During these 50 years the unit has participated in all operations viz 1962, 1965, 1971, Operation Vijay, Operation Parakram and C1/CT operations in J & K and North East sectors. The Gorkha Terriers have excelled in adventure activities i.e. mountaineering, high altitude trekking and cycle expeditions, sports and professional competitions.

Amongst other achievements, this battalion was adjudged the Best Battalion of TA in the Eastern Command. The 107 Inf Bn TA has also won the prestigious Eastern command TA banner ten times in a row. The battalion also has the distinction of winning the Prime Minister’s TA Parade ‘Best Marching Contingent’ in the year 1989 & 2000. Apart from this the personnel of this battalion have won many awards and medals in individual and collective capacities.

The forthcoming celebration programme on 01 Oct 2010 shall entail the traditional Flag hoisting at the unit Quarter Guard including unveiling of the Golden Jubilee Quarter Guard trophy by Lt Gen GM Nair, Col of the Regiment 11 GR, followed by the unit mandir function and ‘Special Sainik Sammelan’ where the ‘First Day Civer’ will be inaugurated. It will be followed by a ‘Barakhana’ where the proud generations of the retired and the serving 11 GR personnel will get together and reminisce the glory and service with cheerful gaiety. The Regiments ‘Brass Band’ will showcase their mellifluous skills from their acclaimed repertoire followed by the ‘Golden Jubilee Dinner in the evening.
